This recipe is OUTSTANDING! A few tweeks: Mix the sugar, cinnamon & nutmeg as directed. After you pat the apple slices dry, sprinkle them w/half to 3/4's of that mixture directly onto the apple slices. Then wrap the slices in the crescent roll. Use remaining sugar mixture to sprinkle over the top in sequence as recipe instructs. This way you have that good sugar/spice taste directly on the apple. Oh, so good!!
Also, do follow the sequence of pouring the Mountain Dew, OR Sprite, OR 7 UP, OR Ginger Ale, OR Mountain Dew over the dumplings AFTER sprinkling that remaining sugar mixture over the rolled dumplings. I thought the liquid washed off most of the sugar mixture so one time I reversed the order--liquid 1st then sprinkled sugar mixture over all. BIG mistake--did not turn out right at all.
Clemde73 is right on--A hit every time.

Try spreading cream cheese on the pastry before you fold in the apples. I also added blueberries and or raspberries to give it a twist. Mmmmm good.

I have made these for years. These are so easy and yummy. I also make these with a piece of canned candy yams inside instead of the apple. Oh my goodness! They are so good! Try the recipe using gingerale instead of the lemon-lime soda also. Really good. I just use what I have on hand. Diet sodas work just as well as regular sodas.

This is so delicious, and huge time saver. Every time I make these, get many compliments. A dietician friend of mine uses diet Mtn. Dew, and half the sugar; it's still delicious.

I made this with a few substitutions to lighten it up -- used reduced fat crescent rolls; substituted Splenda Brown Sugar Blend for the sugar, and substituted diet soda (I used Sprite soda for regular soda. It was absolutely delicious and SO easy!
