I watched this episode on tv this past weekend and had to try it because I had all the ingredents in my kitchen already. I'm not a great cook or baker and I have to make things more than once for it to even come out right. AND...It turned out great! I think when I make it again it'll be perfect, this time I forgot to fold and blended in egg white mixture. But my husband loved it, at first he thought I bought it at the store and then asked why no icing? And I drizzled the syrup and he LOVED it! ! I love Giada's recipes.
I think this is a delicious quick recipe to entertain guest.

Loved this cake! Followed the directions exactly, and got great results! Next time I am going to switch the lemon for orange.

Made this cake twice - once with the mint and once without. Both times they came out great, but since I really don't care for mint (at all I left it out and went from liking it a lot to LOVE, LOVE, LOVING IT! It is really easy to make if you follow the directions exactly. Baking needs precise measuring! It is also a lot easier if you watch the show when Giada makes it. Sometimes FN makes mistakes, or leaves things out.

To Lois in Florida: You watched the segment and yes, she had a whole pitcher, but did you go to the fridge when she mentioned that she makes a batch of simple syrup to use for the whole week???? Those are the type of tips that a written recipe doesn't capture, let you know you are doing it right, and can give a novice cook a lot of confidence !!!

FOLLOW DIRECTIONS PEOPLE and you will end up with the end product you are striving for!

We loved this cake; but, I had a small amount of orange juice in the fridge so I used o.j. instead of lemon.

I loved this cake. I've now made it several times for my friends and comes out perfect each time. Just be careful with the zest in the syrup, it's a little too lemony for my liking so I reduced the amount.

1 My batter turned out clumpy (as I believe another reviewer complained. Maybe more oil or another egg yolk?

2 the lemon from the syrup is a little too powerful. It overpowers the mint altogether. So maybe less zest? Also, I followed the advice of another reviewer and cut the sugar in half but then my syrup was kind of runny so maybe Giada's portions are correct...

3 I agree w/ others that it is a slender cake. More batter would be nice. ( But maybe it is supposed to be kind of dainty...

In spite of all of this, the cake was still TASTY!

My family loved this wonderful, litte lemony cake. They went on and on about the cake and asked to have it again real soon, maybe for Thanksgiving or Christmas.... It was that good. Thank you so much for making my day. How could I make a bigger cake?

While I can't seem to fold in the whites without loosing the volume, I still love the taste of this. I used 3T of finely chopped mint from my fairly mild mint plant and it seemed perfect. I made a syrup of limoncello mixed with a bit of sugar (to taste and found that to be pefect. This cake is quick to make!
