I am not a fan of lentils but I am going to attempt to make this soup with a few variations. I am adding diced tomatoes and cubed potatoes as well as a few other veggies. My Mom use to make a "whatever is in the veggie bin" soup when I was a child and that soup was amazing, so this will be my version of Mom's soup, using Ina's recipe. I do not have Cumin so I'm going to experiement with a smokey paprika spice and see what happens!

I was surprised at the taste of this soup. I was not a fan. It was very edible, but something was just off for me, can not figure out what it is, but will try this again (half the recipe and see what it is that I dont like, or feel is lacking for my taste buds. Not everyone will like ALL recipes... but INA, you're still a CHAMP!

LOVED THIS SOUP! It makes a ton so be ready for leftovers or serve for a large group. It does involve a lot of chopping, but it is well worth the effort. Be sure to use chicken stock and not just broth, it will make it more flavorful. I served mine with skillet cornbread, and it was perfect!

This soup turned out somewhat bland and I followed the recipe. Don't know what I did wrong.

This is one hearty perfect for those chilly fall/winter nights soup! I made it for the first time yesterday, and as it was simmering away on the stove my husband and neighbors that were coming in and out kept asking what smelled so delicious!
There is a TON of chopping involved, but I love chopping so that didn't bother me. Only thing I did differently was I used regular lentils. I know Ina was INSISTENT on the "french green lentils" but the few stores I was at did not have them, so I went with regular. And the soup turned out delicious.
Thanks Ina! I love soup recipes like this!
