We loved this homemade soda! I have never tried making my own soda drink and this is so, so much better than anything in a bottle or can. I have a lime tree and I'm always looking for recipes that use limes. This one is easy and can be used with any citrus in my opinion. I've used it with lemons and I'm going to try it with my Meyer lemons next.

i tried this using water instead of club soda because i was too lazy to get to the store. i also used lemon instead of a lime. it came out GREAT!!! my only concern is the amount of sugar used. i always aim for healthier options so next time i might try adding more lime/lemon rind to the water/sugar solution in efforts to stretch the syrup a bit more. using this recipe, we're putting in almost the same amount of sugar per serving that you'd get in a can of pepsi or other commercial soda. i want to try to lower it a bit to make it a bit healthier...other than that i think this idea is great and it tastes great, even with lemon!
i might get creative and try a ton of other flavors...lol

I tried it after I had went to a Puerto Rican restaurant and had it! It was almost as good as the one I had in the restaurant. I will need to perfect the process but I can't wait to try it again and maybe add a little vodka or light rum!

Tried it just as she suggested and my family really enjoyed it. I had a Mexican day and invited friends and family; everyone enjoyed. Will try it with orange next time.

Hey Jeanne, where I think you went wrong is by boiling the limes and squeezing out the liquid instead of the RIND. Check the recipe again, it says to boil the rind not the lime. I boiled the rind and it turned out fine.

I followed the instructions to a T but mine turned out very bitter. I had the heat on a low simmer and after 10 minutes it had barely reduced. When I removed the limes, I squeezed the excess liquid out of them. Maybe that was the cause. How could something so easy turn out so wrong?? All in all, it was totally undrinkable because of the bitterness and bad aftertaste and I ended up throwing it out.

I liked the drink, but to add more zing I added a splash of cranberry juice (orange juice was great also. Also, I tried using ginger ale instead of just bubbly water and it was great also. If you wanted to make a cocktail out of it just add a splash of vodka...Sooo good!

Made this as a simple, refreshing, treat for our father's day meal. Everyone loved it. It was light, crisp and super easy to do. I'm sure you can add anything you want to the base.
