I served this for Thanksgiving and my father said "This is the BEST cranberry sauce he EVER had!" Another guest said, they don't usually eat cranberry sauce, but this was delicious. I was surprised by how easy it was to make (even when I had several things going on the stove that needed a great deal of attention.

This basic cranberry sauce recipe is a brilliant blend of sweet and savory ingredients. The shallots are very important and must not be omitted. I made it the first time for Thanksgiving 2011 and it was a big hit. I never thought that shallots, cranberries and ginger could combine into something so exquisite, but I am a true believer now. This is a sauce that I will serve on many different occasions and have already recommended it to others. Try it. You'll definitely like it.

I know some may believe that shallots and cranberries don't belong together, but I thought the onions added a really nice, interesting flavor to the sauce. As for its being too sweet, I found that just a handful more of the cranberries balanced that out well, as would Bobby's suggestions for a lime or vinegar or blackberry addition.

MUCH too sweet if followed exactly. I cut the honey and sugar in half and still was too sweet. I had wanted to make the guava variation but couldn't because it was too sweet to start with. If making with guava, the sugars should be cut even further. My best guess is that this is for 2 pounds of cranberries.

This is nothing like canned cranberry sauce! It is a little savory and flavors are complex (partly because the shallots, please don't omit them!. I added a dash of cinnamon and some orange zest as suggested by other reviewers. This was easy to make and a nice upgrade to my traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

I used half the suggested sugar amount and still felt it was too sweet.

Great recipe!!! Took off a star because the directions and ingredients list conflict about how much granulated sugar to use. It is the 1/2 cup. As for the shallot, I used about 2 tablespoons worth. After all said and done, went great in it, though some here have suggested perhaps a little less, maybe 1 1/2 tablespoons. Enjoy.

I made this out of curiosity. Shallots, or any kind of onion, simply don't belong with a sweet cranberry sauce.

I just made the base sauce and it's delicious.I added some grated orange zest. I rated 4 out of 5 stars since the printed recipe omitted the white sugar (about 1/2 cup that Bobby uses in the video of making the sauce. I love his variations on the cranberry sauce and will try them soon.
