Too sweet....next time I will use less syrup and a little more chili paste...Love Ina's recipes...first one that was disappointing!

These beans are incredible! I've never had baked beans so tasty in my life! I used great northerns and after cooking the beans, added all ingredients to my crockpot and cooked for about 7 hours. I like my beans sweet and these satisfied my sweet tooth. I also made cornbread and a salad to top off a wonderful meal.

I've wanted to make Ina's baked beans for awhile & I finally did this weekend. They were very good, but a little too sweet for me.

These were some of the best baked beans I have ever made. My husband loves baked beans and he told me, after eating these, to throw out all my other recipes! The only thing I changed were the beans I used. I did not have kidney beans, so used Great Northern. It was absolutely the best!

Loved these beans! My husband doesn't even like beans and he loved them, too. Great flavor and so easy. The only change I made was using Great Northern Beans instead of kidney beans as my husband doesn't like kidney beans at all. This is definitely a keeper. Ina is always a sure thing!

I'm really shocked that these beans did not receive more glowing 5 star reviews. These are possibly the BEST beans I've ever had in my life. I made a double batch for Christmas; one batch in the crock pot and one in the dutch oven. They both turned out the same and were done at the same time (about 6 hours, maybe a little sooner. I mixed them together and the next day (Christmas they were thick, rich, and AMAZING. The pork (which I rarely eat made them rich and tasty, but the sauce and kidney bean is what perfects them. Since I doubled the recipe, I added 1 tablespoon of the fresh ginger (instead of 2 tbsp, so I'd say half the amount of ginger works well. I added the regular amount of chili paste and it didn't make my beans taste like "sweet & sour sauce" as one reviewer mentioned. I think these are delicious and so easy to prepare. Once the beans are soaked, you just chop a few items and throw it all in the pot. You MUST try these if you love beans.

I make these beans in the cool weather per recipe. But for summer BBQs - Substitute canned beans & a crock pot for 8 hours and they'll never the difference. Also in a pinch, I use 1 tsp of chilli powder and ground ginger for the real thing. Any bean will do.
    VERY VERSATILE

Delicious and 100% worth the effort. There is actually very little effort involved, but you need to plan ahead, since the dried beans require an overnight soak, and the final dish will require an entire day to cook. The recipe makes a very large pot of beans and the flavor is complex and memorable. They are even better heated up the next day.

This is by far the best baked bean recipe I've ever made. I make sure I use very good bacon from Trader Joe's and then just followed her directions. I serve this dish with my homemade French bread. You don't need anything else. It warms up nicely for days! Thanks Ina!
