I loved it and so did my family! At first they were skeptical, but once they tasted it, they really were pleasantly surprised!

After watching the show, I went shopping for all the ingredients. All I could find were packets of 1.25 lbs of ground pork, so I bought 2. Although it was over 2 pounds, I still used the same quantity of ingredients. I used all of the marinade in the ground pork.

I placed foil on my indoor grill pan. I weighed out 8 1/4 oz. for each patty and got 6 out of the batch. I cooked them for about 13-14 or so minutes on each side and used the meat thermometer to check for proper temperature. The burgers were amazing! They did not fall apart! However, I was expecting a tinge of spice, but there was none. After cooking, the weight of the burger is just over 5 oz.

The only thing I will tweak for next time is blending some of the guajillo pepper seeds in with the marinade to give it a little kick. After all, traditional Al Pastor tacos can range from mildly spicy to spicy. Excellent recipe.

After watching the show, I went to my freezer to get my ground pork, only to realize I used it already. Since al pastor is a pork dish, I didn't want to use another meat, so thanks to all that posted it worked with ground turkey and beef. What I did find was a 3 lb pork sirloin roast and I decided to marinate it the recipe. I made the marinade while the roast defrosted, then poked some holes in the meat with a large fork, and put them together in a gallon plastic bag. I grilled the roast on my charcoal grill and there was not a slice left! Going to store for ground pork today! Love you Marcela, you have taught me how to use peppers and cook Mexican.

Delicioso, just like Spike said on the show! I used ground turkey and pan fried them. they did not fall apart or stick, and they were great! I'll never go back to plain hamburgers again. Marcela is brilliant!

We have made this recipe several times for friends, and it is ALWAYS a hit! We substitute ancho chiles for the guajillo chiles. They don't fall apart if you don't use all of the sauce.
We reserve some of the sauce for migas in the morning. So yummy!

These were amazing, I made these for friends, some of whom don't like pork so I used beef and you really get that wonderful smoky, yet sweet traditional al pastor taste. Really worth making and make sure you take the seeds out of the chiles, they don't provide heat like spicy chiles and if you leave them in, they'll make the burgers break apart. But all in all, great recipe!!

Two words. Awe...Some. Really, really good. They do taste like Al Pastor, which is surprising given the few ingredients it takes to make the marinade for the meat. I'm not a fan of sweet/savory, but the pineapple here is a must because the bit of tart/sweet combines with the spices in the mat really well. I made half the recipe, so I didn't want to turn the grill on for just a few patties. Instead I pan friend the burgers, and then pan fried the pineapple in the same skillet. The meat is very soft and wet, so I made 4 meatballs and flattened them once in the skillet. I did not move them until the edges looked done, then carefully flipped them over and left them alone until they were done and they seemed to hold up pretty well that way. This is a winner and I'll be making the full recipe next time for sure!

Yeah, I know what everyone is talking about them falling apart. I tried NOT to move them at all. I waited about 5 minutes or so to flip them. They DIDN'T really fall apart too much. But I could see that if you move them a lot, they will fall apart totally. I just sprayed some pam for the grill and burgers didn't stick to it. Next time I might put aluminum (grill aluminum on the grill and place the burgers on top. I also placed the burger bun with mayo on the grill to warm them up a little and give it a good flavor. I didn't put a pineapple slice on it. I don't really like that. But still, the burger tasted really good! I also was very hesitant about the cilantro and onion toping...but I loved it! It really tasted like a al pastor taco!!! My husband hasn't tried it, he is very picky and we'll see if he likes them! Also made the cilantro fries and they both go together great! I didn't put ketchup on the burger...but ate fries with ketchup.

OMG this my favorite burger. 1s time we did with regular hamburger. We have been buying fresh pineapple more now and love it grilled. We used Red New Mexico chilies as we could not find Guajillo chilies here in Syracuse, NY. Still delicious! Cilantro is a staple in our home I grew up with it & could not believe my husband family never had it before. I use to live out West now live in the East. Now have fresh cilantro along with different peppers in our garden fresh during the season. The Cilantro fries to die for.... Love this show & her recipes. Love Marcela she is young cutest chef I have ever seen. Love her accent.
