I worked at starbucks for seven years and had tons of different types of coffee, there is one thing i never had, My grandmothers cafe de la olla, and this is by far the best replication of that. GREAT flavor, thank you Marcela.

I'm a coffee fanatic who brews her coffee with cinnamon in the grounds. So when I saw cinnamon stick, I thought this has got to be good, and I have Mexican canela sticks! I only coffee ground for espresso, so I only used 1/3 cup of coffee. I also used the peel of one whole tangelo. I don't like really sweet coffee, so I only used the first 1/3 of the piloncillo. The hardest part of the recipe was sawing through the cone. Even with the extra work (anyone have any good tips for cutting these?, I would use it instead of brown sugar. The taste really is different. The flavor was deep, rich, only slightly spicy and satisfying. The flavors complemented each other perfectly! I also love really good iced coffee, so the extra is going to be perfect tomorrow morning. I might share my next pot, but not this one LOL!

Congratulations Marcela on your show! I don't know what took so long to get a show featuring Mexican food on the air, but I'm so happy they finally did. OK Food Network, bring on the Thai, or Japanese food shows. There have been Chinese food shows, so exposure to other Asian food would be great. I think middle America is more ready for ethnic food than you might think!

This doesn't have the taste of cafe de olla I've sampled in Mexico, but it isn't bad. We cut the sugar in half, added a couple tablespoons more coffee and a bit of cardamom (a suggestion from my Turkish-Mexican husband who's from Marcela's hometown. We also yearned for a bit more citrus flavor, so added just a splash of triple sec to freshen that up. I might try zesting some of the orange peel next time instead of using triple sec for a non-alcoholic beverage. Felicidades on your show, Marcela!

This is the best coffee I have ever had. I can't wait to make it for my mother and father in-law. They are from Mexico but have lived here for 40 years. I know this will take they back. Thank you so much. I wouldn't change a thing.

This coffee is so good. I make a personal serving of it most days. I put the cinnamon stick, orange peel, and sugar at the bottom of the coffee pot and then brew the coffee. I let the cinnamon and peel steep in the coffee for a few minutes and then pour it into my mug. Delicious!

Not original wrote "What a sale out, this is not mexican food. Watch PBS Rick Rayless for ture Mexican Food"

This recipe is similar to one Rick Rayless has. One that he got from Mexico after visiting. Marcela Valladolid grew up with this recipe as well as many others she has. How can you say that this is not Mexican is he used the same recipe?
I love the recipes and can't wait for more!!
