I made this for the first time last night. I cam out beautifully, exactly as the picture showed. I'm a fairly experienced baker and found this to be an easy, straightforward recipe. The only slight change I made was to use low-fat condensed milk and cream cheese (neufchatel. Rather than making caramel, I used Nestle "La Lechera", dulce de leche saue.I baked it in a 12-cup non-stick bundt pan and it set up and plated easily. My guests loved it.

It's me again, less frustrated! 3rd time was the charm. 2nd cake I put in a tube pan, which was a disaster. Halfway through baking time I looked in the oven and all my flan had leaked out and was floating in the water bath. You absolutely must watch the video where she doesn't mention caramel, and add the ingredients she adds. Turned out perfect! Since I had two cans of the Mexican caramel (found next to the condensed milk, I put the cans in a pan of hot water, stirred until soft, added enough cream so that I could drizzle it on the baked cake. It was a huge hit, beautiful and impressive, and not a crumb left.

I made this cake for Easter 2013, my family loved it! Every crumb was devoured. It had been a long time since I had made a cake from scratch...I even made the caramel from scratch also. It was so delicious! Thanks for such a great recipe! My family has asked me to bake another one! The chocolate cake was so complimenting to the delicate creaminess of the flan...this recipe is definately a keeper for many family get togethers!

Made this for my boyfriend who's Mexican, he loved it, so it has the seal of approval I loved it, too. It's impressive looking but so simple to make. :

Holy cow, what a hit over the holidays this was! It had such fantastic reviews at Christmas that I made another for our New Year's party. I followed the recipe exactly the first time (made my own simple caramel sauce just by melting sugar in a saucepan, the cake and flan separated from each other beautifully and I had no problems. The second time I acquiesced to my husband's request for more caramel sauce, so I used 3/4 cup of sugar to make it and it was even better!

I've never had this before so I didn't know what to expect. The flan and cake did not neatly separate so the flan part isn't like what you get when you have flan by itself. It mixes a little with the cake. I had to bake it much longer than the recipe says and poked it until it didn't seem raw on the inside. It tastes better than it looks. Although some people liked it, I'm not sure I'd use this recipe again.

this recipe is flawed. i dont know if its the cooking time or too much liquid in the flan but my chocoflan was a disaster. i followed the directions but when it came time to invert the cake the middle was runny and my cake imploded on itself. the outer part of the cake was done but the middle was not. after all the uncooked flan leaked out of the cake, i decided to taste it. it was ok but the chocolate cake was not very chocolatey at all or sweet. the flan was ok.

I have made this cake a million times. At first i was a bit skeptical about the flan and cake together but it actually worked out quite well. my whole family is in LOVE with this cake and they always ask me to make this whenever we have a family party. Making this again for our Christmas Eve dinner tonight. This recipe is AMAZING!
