great taste and consistency. love the cake with flan. couldn't find buttermilk in the store and substituted whole milk instead and it still turned out good, just like the pictures!

That's what my husband said, it's a "keeper." Chocolate cake is rich and moist and the flan a perfect counterpoint. I had never used cajeta before and I'm hooked. It's delicious right out of the can.
Btw, I cooked the cake for almost 90 minutes, at 60 minutes based on the recipe, it was still liquid.

Wow! JUST WOW! We were so afraid of how this was going to turn out as it was not done in 1 hour. Also the cake batter was taking more than half of the pan so we took a cup out. And when we poured in the Flan mixture some of the cake batter already started floating on the surface. We let it bake for an extra hour and left it to cool for 2 hours while we left the house thinking that we will never try this recipe again. But, much to our surprise it came out absolutely beautiful and delicious. Whatever went wrong was probably from our side. We will definitely make this again. Thanks to Marcela and Food Network.

Absolutely delicious and elegant!!! Turned out PERFECT! : I bake all the time, almost daily and I have never liked flan (was made to eat it as a child. The reason I decided to make this was the beauty and challenge, as much as I cook and bake I never made a flan until now. I was so apprehensive when I was ready to invert it and when I lifted the pan off I was delighted! LOL sound like a kid. Perfection, but the next question would be if it tasted as good as it looked and it did I loved it and so did my husband. To be honest I was having fun just with the challenge after reading some bad attempts on the reviews and I really did not care if I liked it our not because it was so elegant and sleek, but I am glad I did. I did add some spices to the cake to make sure it had plenty of flavor and used Ghiradelli cocoa. Will definitely repeat this one and even play around more with the ingredients to see what else I can come up with. This is a MUST try! Happy cooking to all! :
