Its a shame that people are so judgmental about her unique take on a traditional Mexican drink. If you watched the show … you would have watched her clearly explain that this is not really a horchata but rather a quick easy way to make a similar refreshing drink. Marcela holds true to Mexican culture and flavor more than any TV Chef I know. Its frustrating to read reviews on that do not mention the actual recipe but rather attempt to challenge her style. She is a great host and shows absolute respect for her culture and food. Lets not forget she is speaking to an American audience on an American food network.
This recipe is a great alternative to the original rice horchata which take 8 hours. Though it may not be authentic … it tastes great and 30-2hrs is much more convenient. Thanks for reading.

I also agree with night shade. Marcela your reciepe is good but please dont confuse people by calling this Horchata because it's not. Also some of your reciepes are not true authentic Mexican reciepes, a lot of it is very americanized and it would be nice to explain that to the public.

The first time I made this recipe I soaked the oats for 20 minutes and it came out pretty good the second time I made this I let it soak for 2 hrs and It came out way better!!
This is a good way to incorporate a healthy drink at dinner time for my two little boys...
Mayra she did say on the show that its not "horchata" because it is too complicated to make, it is a version since the taste is very similar... The show is also called Mexican made easy, therefore the recipes are made easy...

It's a yummy version. But mostly Myra....you are on the border of becoming psycho about this stuff on her recipes. If you don't like her show...guess what? Stop watching! Easy fix. Oh.... and your grammar is horrible. :

Hello Marcela, congratulations for your program, I used to have a food column in "El Mexicano" in Tijuana, y know thar horchata is made with rice but my husband love your recipe because he was drinking oatmeal water, to control cholesterol and your version of horchata is very tasty and also healtier than the original horchata, Thak you and mucho exito!

I saw this on Marcela's show and really wanted to try it, since I love horchata and this looked like such an easy recipe. After trying it out, it was pretty tasty, but not quite as good as horchata. I found that it helped to add more sugar, some vanilla, and a few tablespoons of milk to thicken it. I would make it again, since it's tasty and relatively healthy.
I didn't realize there was a Mexican oat drink, so thanks to the reviewers who pointed it out. I agree: Marcela, there's no need to try to pass it off as horchata! We should just call it what it is.
