Substituted a tsp of vanilla extract for the liqueur. Everyone loved this cake and I will definitely be making it again, but next time I will double the whipped cream topping.

Despite the excellent reviews, I must admit that I was a little nervous that the cake would turn out uber soggy with the liquid seeping out on the bottom, but it was quite the opposite! The end result was a perfectly moist cake complemented by a thick, sweet milk mixture. The cake was just the right amount of sweet. I made this for a Cinco de Mayo potluck and it was devoured by all! Highly recommend!!

I had never had a tres leches cake before and I'm usually not real keen on "wet cake" textures BUT this cake was awesome! I gave it a try in spirit of cinco de mayo and now I'm definitely hooked. I followed the recipe almost exactly except.... I added vanilla to the batter and whipped cream frosting, I omitted the orange liqueur because I wanted to drift away from a citrus flavor, and I didnt use the whole amount of milk mixture to avoid extra liquid leakage. Next time I make this cake, and I will make it again, I may try adding rum instead of the orange liqueur and I may add some toasted sliced almonds on top for tasty decoration. And the cinnamon on top is a MUST, it adds a delightful spicy after taste... mmm perfection.

This cake is the BEST I've ever had.It is perfectly moist, slightly crunchy and perfect way to end a meal and curb a sweet tooth! I baked it twice in 3 days! Everyone at work LOVED it! Thank you Marcela!! Although recipe directions were perfect.I did tweak a bit.FOR THE CAKE
- Baked the cake in a 9" springform ( which was dark coated @ 350*F for 30 mins to brown and form a crust, then at 325* F for an additional 20 minutes.- For the orange flavor ,I added 4 Tbls. of Cointreau b/c I like the flavor to stand out.
- 1 tbls. Vanilla extract to cake batter
_ To make the cake less "sweet" ,I added 1/2 c. whole milk to the milk mixture( use the measurements above then add the extra milk.
_ Added 1/4 Tsp. of Cinnamon to the milk mixture and chilled the milk while the cake cooled down.Whip Cream--Added 1 tsp. Cointreau and 1/2 tsp vanilla ext
Pour the milk while the cake is warm (lot easier to poke the holes and lets the milk set in better.
*Also- let the cake sit overnight.

I have never submitted a review on Food Network, although have used LOTS of recipes from this station. But this recipe -- OMG!!! I had to write to say how awesome it was. I made it the other day and will be making it again next weekend. Everyone loved it. I could not find a 10" pan so baked it in a 9" one and it took 45 minutes. Next time, I would let the milk mixture soak in more so it doesn't puddle on the bottom of the plate. Thanks so much for the great recipe and I would LOVE to be one of your girlfriends invited over for one of your brunches!!!!

I could not find a 10" round so I used two 9" rounds to make two cakes instead of one.
Soaked them both overnight. Added a little kick to the frosting with a flavored liquer.
Both cakes devoured and compared to local bakeries....muy excellente!!

well, I used one cup of sugar and only half can of condensed milk and still a little too sweet for my taste. Next time Ill try only 1/2 cup of sugar on the batter as the condensed milk is already very sweet.. I would keep the 1/2 can of condensed milk and 1/2 cup of half and half. Also It took 45 minuts to bake. The higher the pan you use the best as this cake rise a lot.
