Make this every year it is great. Make the bread more domed and have to bake it longer, but it is worth it.

I fixed this yesterday for our traditional St. Pat's Day meal. It was a hit. I served it as recommened with the butter and marmalade. The texture was fine and the loaves were beautiful. The aroma of the baking bread scented the kitchen wonderfully and everyone was really ready to try the new recipe. I did a couple of things not in the recipe though, I soaked the raisns in hot water and drained them before adding to the dough and I brushed the top of the loaves with a little milk when they came out of the oven. This one goes into my keeper file and I will make it for weekend brunch and tea time as well.

This is a very easy and reliable recipe and can easily be made into scones instead, or adapted. It tastes even better the next day, and it freezes well if you want to make a double batch and keep some handy in the freezer. I hate caraway so I leave that out, and I use only half as many raisins as the recipe calls for (and use golden raisins instead of black. One great variation: use a mixture of golden raisins and dried cranberries, and add some orange zest. If you don't have buttermilk, you can use regular milk and add about a teaspoon of vinegar to acidulate it. This is a good recipe for beginning cooks or to make with kids. Easy, fast, and delicious!

I'm not much of a baker, but was craving some warm fresh Irish Soda Bread. This recipe was quick and easy. I'm all about a recipe that takes longer to bake than for me to prepare! Within an hour I was done (including clean-up and the result was better than my local bakery! I highly recommend this recipe.

I found this recipe to be not as intimidating as I thought it might be. The texture was good, as was the taste, even if the shape was a mite bit strange. My family enjoyed it and that's all that counts.

and it was great. I didn't know what it was supposed to taste like so I compared it to a loaf I purchased at Wild Oats (in Salt Lake and this was much better tasting. The texture wasn't as fine and it ws bit crumbly so I'd suggest kneading it a bit more the the recipe calls for.

I made this for a St. Patrick's Day party as this is what I was asked to bring. Never having had soda bread before, I wasn't sure if this was 'authentic'. I made two loaves of this recipe - one with and one without caraway - as well as a recipe a friend gave me which she said was the best. So, all in all, I had three versions of bread so we could all do a taste test. This recipe WITH caraway seeds won hands down. As several guests at the party were Irish-American and had traveled to Ireland various times, I'd have to say this recipe is the real deal. We served it with salted butter (instead of sweet and it was delicious. So, with raisins and with caraway is the way to go.
