My boyfriend is Italian, and a chef, so I was terrified to try making something for him that his grandmother did perfectly. He loved these meatballs! I deviated a little from the recipe in that I used heavy cream to soak the bread, added minced garlic, and also added grated parmesan cheese. I fried the meatballs first, then added them to the sauce I was making, allowing them to cook together for another hour or so. All in all, great recipe, definitely give it a try!

Whenever I make meatballs, I always cook a bit up and taste it, to see if it needs any additions. These were bland and moist. What I did differently to make them delicious!

    1. Added 1 onion and 3 cloves of garlic
    2. Squeezed out the extra milk from the bread, put it in the sauce!
    3. Added extra salt, pepper, garlic powder and some Mrs. Dash for flavor.
    4. Added 1 small can of tomato paste so the sauce didn't reduce too much.
    5. To save some time, I roasted the meatballs in the oven at 500 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes, instead of cooking them in a frying pan.

Very good and the family all liked them!

I had my hopes up that Mario would be the man with the great Meatball & Sauce recipe. Well, if he does, it's not this one. First, there are a few probs with the recipe. For one, the amount of bread wasn't enough. Either that or there was too much moisture somewhere because the meatballs were too soft to fry. So I added more bread. They held together then but - too much bread. Something's off there. Then there was not enough sauce in proportion to the meatballs. Either double the sauce or halve the meat. (unless you want tiny bit of pasta & sauce with TONS of meatballs. As for the sauce, the thyme works with the lighter meats, but it still was bland - even for a simple sauce which maybe isn't the right thing with all that meat (need a stronger tasting sauce to hold up to the meat. I will not make this again.

I have a good friend who "doesn't like meatballs." She does now! I made these for dinner one night and now she's hooked. Marvelous.

I doubled this recipe and made it for my wife's 50th birthday party. It was a huge hit! Everybody raved about the sauce and the meatballs. Absolutely the best I have ever tasted!!!
