I substituted unsweetened applesauce for the oil, added 2 TB more Cocoa Powder, reduced the sugar to .4 cups, and used only 1/4 c of the melted chocolate chips (didn't add chocolate chips to the batter. I also didn't add the powdered sugar on top. Tasted really moist and healthier alternative to still get your chocolate fix. For those questioning the nutritional values for this adapted version (12 servings the nutritional info is the following: 83 calories, 1.7 g of fat (0.9 saturated, 8.5 mg of cholesterol, 16.2 g of Carbs, 7.7 g of sugar and 2.2g of protein. I think it would be great with some fresh berries and vanilla yogurt on top.

I love to find ways to hide healthy ingredients in foods I know my kids will eat! These were by far the best "hidden ingredient" recipe I've tried yet!

This recipe is amazing! I made these brownies using this recipe exactly as it states, I used wax paper in the bottom of the pan to prevent sticking and baked for 27 mins in a 8x8 pan... PERFECT! two brownies were gone before they were cooled off!

I was skeptical at first- I mean, who's heard of beans in a brownie? I looked at the reviews, and decided to give it a go, and boy, was I amazed! The brownies were rich and fudgy, and oh-so decadent! I replaced the oil with a 5 minute applesauce recipe. Peel as many apples as you want to use, and whatever type and microwave for about 5 minutes. Then purée. Then I replaced the flour with oat flour. Food process instant oatmeal, then sift until powdered. Once oats are sifted, resift to make sure it is very fine. I also added extra chocolate chips, but they were not needed. Instead of using 2/3 of a cup of sugar, I used half the amount listed but sweetened the batter with splenda instead of sugar. Finally, I skipped out on the coffee since my mother doesn't like me to drink it or use it since I'm eleven. Who knew that healthy desserts could be so delicious?! This is definitely going in my recipe box! Thank you Melissa!!!

A great alternative to get your brownie fix when trying to be healthy. I substituted apple sauce for the oil and they turned out great!

I made these brownies with a bit of hesitation but boy am I glad I did. I followed her directions but did leave out the espresso and powdered sugar. These brownies are very good. They do Not tatse like the store bought box variety. You can definetely taste the cocoa. They tasted very rich but not too sweet. For anyone on the fence about adding beans, don't worry, you cannot taste them. I will add this recipe to my box. Thanks Melissa and Food Network.

Absolutely delicious! Moist and fudgy and yum. I shared with the neighbors and no one believed it had black beans in it. Not making any other brownies anymore.
