I immediately made the salad and dressing she demo'ed and it was great! I rarely make my own dressing but did it today and it's the first time I used soy sauce. I had a little packet from the chinese take out which was just perfect.
Quick and easy for this working professional who was just chilling out on a Sunday!

Here is the recipe from an episode of Cooking Live:

    1 teaspoon mustard
    2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
    1 teaspoon soy sauce
    1 teaspoon honey
    Salt and pepper
    1/2 cup olive oil
    1/4 cup vegetable oil

Only real difference is that Melissa did not used honey, and less oil, which is obviously a heathier option (you just have to work harder to cover the greens. The French chef probably humored her by claiming that soy sauce was the "secret" ingredient. Shameful. By the way, who in their right mind would suggest saving and reusing a garlic clove you've rubbed all over your wooden bowl.

Simplicity is good, but the over the top attempt to make this something special and "French" is very disappointing.

I love making my own dressing and this one is excellent. I am a fan of Melissa's since watching The Next Food Network Star. She makes elegant recipes accessible to the busy home cook. I noted that most, but not every viewer loves Melissa as I read through the reviews. One comment stated that Melissa's recipes are too easy and that moms could easily make them without watching Melissa's show. I respectfully disagree. As a full time teacher and homemaker who is busy supporting my family in a variety of sports and extracurricular activities, I need just this type of inspiration to identify an inexpensive, innovative and delicious meal for dinner every night. It cannot be too easy when my hungry family members ask for something good to eat and want it 5 minutes ago. Great Job, Melissa and Food Network!

Someone here complained that all she did was a salad, a torte, a dessert and no entre....Hello what do you think the tart was? I was so glad to find it listed her yesterday that i made it last night. I could not afford the cheese she used but I used a sub. It was devine! I loved loved it. You rawk girl. If all you nay sayers would give her a chance she is really good. I wish he had the desert and topping listed here as well. FN you did a great job with Melissa as your choice. I have already downloaded and started my own Melissa d'Arabian $ Dinner/Recipes in my cookware software. She is not a trained Chef nor does she claim to be one. She is a stay at home mom who has a world of helpful hints to impart. I love her.
