This was my first time trying fennel. I had to get the idea that I was eating "slaw" out of my head before I could really appreciate and enjoy the flavors so I started calling it a fennel salad. I came home from work the next day, took the leftovers out of the refrigerator and sat down and emptied the container. I saw Dave staring at me and I just looked at him and remarked, "I hope you didn't want anymore of this." I think it was even better the next day even if the bacon was a little limp. Finally, a show that appreciates the cook that has no desire to be a gourmet cook but wants to put delicious food on the table.

I must admit, I have never used fresh fennel in my kitchen, and a bit afraid too. Am I glad I did, this slaw recipe will be with my cook outs from now on. The red wine dressing w/ fennel fronds gets kudos. Great break from the usual. My family loves it. Fun to my tongue.

I've always loved fennel and cole slaw....what a great tastey combo!!! Delicious is not the word....the bacon gives it a kick of smokiness! HIGHLY recommend this recipe for any cole slaw lover!

I was in the "never tried fennel" crowd. I have to admit, the licorice comment made me nervous, but decided to give it a try anyway. When I started cutting it, it smelled like licorice, and I was more nervous ( I HATE licorice!, but kept on going. I even tasted a little bite as I was cutting it and just KNEW I was not going to like this. But when all was said and done, and the slaw was mixed, it was fabulous! I was concerned my husband wouldn't like it, but he thought it was great too! Thanks Melissa, for getting me to try something new!!!
I do think the next time I make it (and there will be a next time!, I'll run it through my food processor and make the fennel and cabbage a bit smaller - I liked it fine the way it was, but think I'd love it even more if it was smaller bites.

Im not the greatest cook but Im learning. This was easy and really good. My hubby does'nt mind the new recipes so much anymore I usually surprise him. I enjoy the shows with the simple ideas I dont get home until after 7pm with 2 kids to feed. If your a great chef and have all the time in the world then dont watch certain shows. I watch other shows and think I'll be in the kitchen for hours just chopping what takes them five minutes. lol Thanks Melissa

This was very good and a nice change from my regular slaw recipies. I did add some additional bacon. It's my way to get my son to try just about anything.

My husband is always wary of "strange" vegetables...so he immediately balked at the fennel...until he tasted this salad!!! Absolutely delicious!!

Had never used fennel before. We loved the slaw and I will serve it to friends. The left overs were great. Have already purchased my 2nd fennel bulb and am looking for more receipts.

I have started using fennel in several recipes, so was anxious to try this. It wasn't bad.....it just didn't seem to have a whole lot of flavor. I won't make it again without adding some additional spices.
