Its always nice to find a quick and easy way to prepare fish. I have two boys ages 4 and 6 and they really enjoyed the fish "fingers". I found the amount of fish to be kind of light for four people, so I doubled it and we had leftovers. The fish was very mild which worked well for the kids and we just stepped it up with the salsa which I found to the be the best part of the dish. For the first time in my life, I actually purchased dried beans in bulk and prepared them ahead of time - Melissa - Style. They were even better than I was expecting and really easy to prepare. The white wine does the trick! This is another winner.

This was such a great and easy marinade and fast way to cook the fish!! It was so yummy! I actually went the healthier route with it and didn't fry the tortillas and made tacos. Topped them with shredded cabbage, squeeze of lime, chipotle sour cream ( reduced fat sour cream, splash of milk, 2 chipotle peppers from a can & cilantro blended together in the blender. So good, inexpensive and so yummy!! I know this is not a review for the exact recipe but thanks Melissa for the great dinner idea!

Incredible!!!! Made them tonight. They were a huge hit. You are so amazingly talented. Loved the tip on slicing the avocado...
I toasted wheat flour tortillas in my oven because that's what I had on hand...yours were probably better...
    A definite make again...
    Thank you, Ann

I really feel that it is important to be able to complain about the dish as well as the host, as this will enable the host to better themselves. If people who don't like the host or the dish don't communicate it their reasons, nothing will change for the better, and in fact I feel the host will be likely to get a little complacent and big headed. A little grounding is a good thing, but we shouldn't attack other reviewers for their opinions. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. With that said, there are at least 2 ways that we can rate a dish before it airs. The recipes are on FN before they air, and there is nothing to stop you making them before you see the show. The 2nd way is that one does not have to see the show, or make the recipe before it is apparent that it would be great. It is therefore very possible to get a true rating for any recipe that is not yet aired.

I am making these beans tonight!
Thank you, Melissa! Your recipes, cooking methods, and tips are very useful for the average home cook - like me. I cheered for you during The Next Food Network Star, and I still do!
Just ignore those negative comments from Margaret and Mel, naysayers who must be ignorant about the whole purpose of The Next Food Network Star.
And hey - Melissa's show is NOT in prime time. Duh.

Why are people so quick to judge on here? Maybe FoodNetwork.com will start moderating the reviews.

If you don't like the show or the host of the show, get over it and leave them alone. Watch something else! If the Food Network doesn't meet your standards, then start your own network. Until then, grow up and be adults.

Mexican Made Easy is STILL on. Make sure you have your facts before you complain and gripe, espeically in a place where it doesn't belong. Does it make you feel better to belittle someone else - that you don't even know?

Everything I have ever made by Melissa is great and my family really enjoys it, including Mexican food.

I hope the Food Network plans on keeping Melissa around a very long time!!

    I don't know why you all get so huffy over nothing. I have not tried the recipe but I can tell it will be fabulous, so here is a 5 for a new way of getting fish in my diet.. I came here to print it out, and I do have all ingredients except the fish. Every recipe of Melissa's has been fabulous and I have made almost all of them. Here, I will thin out some sour cream and add lime juice and cumin/paprika to decorate and add flavor to the cabbage. In fact, it would be better to finely chop or medium grate the cabbage in advance and salt it lightly so it will wilt a bit and be more manageable. That does not mean her recipe is less than wonderful; it just means I am a good cook who can adapt her work to my own. Thanks Melissa for all your ideas; you are one of the few I record each week. PS Maybe a little cheese too. ;

I was thinking the exact same thing, Helen. I'm sure Tiffany will have some excuse, like she saw the show even earlier because she has Satellite or HDTV or some such thing (that one never made sense to me, but people keep claiming that, so whatever, and was able to prepare this entire meal for breakfast for her family this morning after seeing the show. Or that the recipe was posted on this website yesterday (which it might very well have been, and she made it without seeing the show. And that she just happened to have on hand the dozens of ingredients necessary to make all the components of this dish.

One or more of those things might be true--there's no way to know. But I find it VERY odd that so many of Melissa's reviews are so overwhelmingly positive, and that the vast majority of those reviews are either suspicious like this one, or they're just flat-out rah-rah cheerleading for her and admit they haven't even made the dish.

This kind of stuff is all too common on this website, and it's very frustrating for the rest of us who want to read real recipe reviews, and who don't engage in knee-jerk fawining over whoever happens to be the celebrity "chef" flavor of the month.

And I'm sure I'll get pounced on by Melissa's fans (or more likely, her friends and promoters, I assume for stating the obvious here. But that just proves my point.

I/m not saying this might not be a great recipe, but how do you rate it before the show airs?

As a fellow mom who loves to cook, I enjoyed cheering Melissa on during Next Food Network Star. She has such talent and it really shows in this recipe. It was a crowd pleaser for myself, husband, and 3 small kids. The fish is flavorful and the pineapple, avacado salsa and navy beans are wonderful compiments to it. Plus it made exactly the right amount of food for my size family. Thank you Melissa! I will make this recipe a keeper!
