I am soooo excited that I made home made tortillas. My kids and husband were very impressed. They were delicious and sooo simple to make. The key is definitely to let the dough rest atleast 15 min. covered with a damp paper towel or cloth so as not to dry out, then the dough will be elastic enough to roll out beautifully. I wet the counter with my hands to make the wax paper stick so it would NOT move around while rolling out the balls. I made more than 8 tortillas because I have small children and smaller tortillas as they are easier for them to hold. Also, I used my cast iron skillet and they cooked up about 30 seconds per side on medium heat. Regardless, these were FANTASTIC! There are 6 of us and we all ate and still have enough for my husband to take leftovers for lunch.

I don't know what I did wrong with the dough. I added exactly what was stated, and had to add more water. When I tried roll out after rolling in ball, they wouldn't roll out to more than 4 inches and were cracking all over. I fried them anyways and used them as a base for fried corn and rice and with chicken strips. They are very tasty indeed! But I don't know how to make them more smooth and easy to work with!

I made these flour tortillas last night. I used my tortilla press and it was so easy. I covered the press with plastic wrap, put a sprinkle of flour on the bottom plate, added a small ball of dough on the bottom plate, closed and the press the dough into the perfect size tortillas. Rolling them out with a rolling pin is too much work.
