This is a great and versatile recipe. I first tried it when I was on a cleanse and had to eat vegan. I needed satisfying recipe rich in protein. It has quickly become a go-to recipe. Even today when I was trying to figure out lunch and didn't have much on hand--i realized I had the ingredients for this salad. I too make it with broth (you can use vegetable if you are vegetarian or chicken if you're not. I also add tomatoes and cucumbers to it and think it would taste great with raisins. I have also used lemon when I was out of lime and other vinegar when I was at someone's house who didn't have red wine. Slightly different taste but just as tasty. Make this--you won't be disappointed.

This recipe was my first attempt at cooking lentils. I don't like most legumes, but have been wanting to explore more vegetarian options. So I tried this recipe and it was fantastic! The dressing is really great and the combination of lentils and quinoa created a nice variety of textures. I also added a can of organic diced tomatoes (drained and some chopped kalamata olives, just to give it more pizzazz. I was pleasantly surprised at how filling and tasty this simple recipe was!

WOW! Tasty AND good for you!
This is one of the best salads I've made. I took it to my mom and dad and told them it was healthy. Of course, their first response was not one of excitement. After they tasted it, they kept eating and wanted me to make more! I used lime juice instead of lime zest, and used real garlic instead of garlic powder. Other than that, follow the recipe. This will be a staple in our household.

This was my first quinoa recipe. I made veggie stock and used that to cook the quinoa and the lentils. Followed the recipe and it is very good. The dressing is very tasty too. I will make again.

I had to review as I noticed a Blah comment. Wow...far from blah. Loaded with flavor. I did use 1/2 veggie stock and 1/2 water while simmering the lentils as I do this alot for different grains.
Very tasty and quick. Would go great as a side for alot of dishes. I'm seeing it with fish, chicken or even a side with an over-easy egg. Yum.

This salad was a good idea but the flavor was lackluster. I would definitely add salt to the water cooking the quinoa, and I would use lime juice instead of red wine vinegar. As long as you've got the limes, you might as well use the juice, and I think it would give the salad more punch, which is needs. Definitely worth while to double the recipe. I used Trader Joe's steamed lentils to save time.

I had been looking for a recipe to get my husband and son to eat lentils or quinoa. This one had both, and it got them to eat it! my husband and I liked it both warm and chilled (leftovers the second day, son did not like it chilled, thus the loss of a star. I loved the easy microwave cooking of quinoa. I did Melissa's recipe, will likely try some of the versions others used. But this is a great side dish, helps fill you up.

Loved the taste and texture of this wonderful dish, and the dressing was perfect.I guess I cheated a bit by using canned black lentils, but it still worked great. I also prepared the quinoa on the stovetop rather than the microwave, but I don't think it changed it much. I doubled the recipe and had enough to save for another meal. Hope it freezes okay.

Made this for supper and it was yummy. I didn't have green onions, so I just chopped up a yellow onion and threw that in there and also used fresh garlic (three gloves instead of garlic powder. I didn't have cilantro either.
But this was good and I will definitely make again, but will make a lot extra next time. I even doubled the green lentils this time but still didn't seem to make very much. Definitely wouldn't make enough for a large group of people. I was able to eat the whole thing myself but that's probably because I had it by itself. As a side dish I can see it making maybe four servings, but I was having it alone as a meal.
