I tried this recipe after the show and my family loved it. It was flavorful with the simple clean taste. I am sure that was because of the lemon zest and garlic. This orzo is a keeper for my family.

After that I decided to try the recipe as is, and with just the chicken broth- side by side and compare. All though both were great we all thought that the extra creaminess (which is what we thought she was going for of the original recipe was the best. I have used orzo in many different ways and this one is a keeper.

There was no way that all this liquid was going to get absorbed. Even though I minced the thyme, it felt like I was eating grass and even with the lemon flavor, this was booooring!

I havent tried this yet because I wanted to read all the comments / reviews first which I JUST did. Im glad to see about the water but I have to agree with one review about cooking orzo like pasta and drain it when your done that way theres no worries about how long to cook it or making it mushy. Stop and drain it when YOU are happy with its consistency. I know it should be like risutto but
really? ITS not risutto so I'd say do it how whatever works.
I may be speaking out of contex because I have yet to make it but have had orzo in soups and do realize you can drain it because it is pasta.
Thanks Melissa, I really enjoy the shows and agree with some of the posters that cooking for a big family for 10 bux is great. These recipes are easy for follow and easy to cook. I have 4 children and meals like this are a life saver.
I look forward to more and I place alot of them in my online Food Network Recipe Box....
ps had to post a rating but I will be sure to come back with a true rating

After reading the other reviews, I made this with just the chicken stock (plus about another half cup. I had the Parmesan out for her roasted broccoli, so I put a bit of that in at the end. It was great and so easy. I'll make this again soon.

I also read several of the comments regarding the amount of liquid. When I decided to make this dish, I checked the directions on the box which advised to cook like you would any other pasta and after time is up, drain the excess liquid. My family liked this dish. I do agree with another comment re: dried vs fresh thyme. I too only had dried and I know it is MUCH stronger but I got heavy handed - my fault - not the recipe's. I would also probably add parm cheese next time. All in all - a nice new pasta I had not tried before...

This recipe was EASY, QUICK and delicious. I have made it 3 times and have adjusted it to suit our meal. My family is now a huge fan of Orzo, which I have only used in soups in the past. Great flavor. Reminds me of risotto without all the work. I adjusted quantity of liquids and orzo until I found what works best for my stove and climate. I too added a bit of parm and butter to finish it off.

I wish I would have read others' comments before I made this dish. I followed the recipe exactly, and thought that the dish had no flavor and there was WAY too much liquid. I will try this again because I love orzo and I think this recipe has some potential, but I will use some of the other reviewer's tips when I do.

I was not impressed with this recipe. It was bland and flavorless. I had to add Parmesan cheese and marinara sauce to make it enjoyable.
