It was tasty but there was too much liquid. It took 20 minutes for all of the liquid to be absorbed.

I left out the water completely and used only the chicken broth. I cooked it 10 minutes and it was wonderful - very creamy and lots of flavor. Just wished I would have doubled the recipe so would have had leftovers for lunch.

I made this recipe EXACTLY as Melissa made it and I found it to be much too watery and bland. I make orzo all the time, both as a side and added into soup and this recipe's ratio of liquid to pasta is way off. I saw this when it aired and thought it looked tasty, but even as I was watching it, it did not look right and I could not understand how she got all the liquid to absorb in 10 minutes. (Cooking the orzo longer would make it WAY too well done/mushy for our taste. Still, I gave it shot. I even went back to the TiVo and watched it again and I did think that the measuring cup she used on TV looked much larger than 1/4 cup. All this added together makes me think that the recipe is written wrong. Cutting out some or all of the water may fix it but I also found it rather bland, even with the added spices.

This is the first time I've ever cooked orzo and I loved the end result. Delicious and creamy, just as she stated in the show. I followed the recipe exactly and was worried about the fact that mine was still really watery by the end of the 10 minutes but I think I had my heat on too low. I turned up the heat a little, and let it boil for a little longer and eventually, most of the liquid was absorbed or evaporated. Love it and will definitely make it again.

I made this recipe just last night. Being new to orzo, I was alarmed when my small box instructions advised me to start with FIVE QUARTS of water for such a small quantity, so I rushed to my computer to download Melissa's recipe. I made it as she said, letting it simmer and stirring occassionally until my protein was cooked and the fluid was consumed by the orzo. It was creamy just as she promised. Although I forgot the pepper flakes in the beginning, I loved the addition of the lemon zest. The measurements are correct - 3.5 cups fluid to 3/4 cup orzo. Seems like a bad ratio, but it's not. I loved it, and my husband - who's not a fan of pasta - love it too! I'm excited to make it again this Friday for my Bible study group.

I'm curious as to how reviewers can rate this dish a 4 or 5 star dish when several have given this rating but said that there was way too much water and that either the recipe amount or instructions were wrong. Please be realistic about whether the dish, as specified in the recipe, comes out well. Not everyone takes the time to read all the reviews. Neither Melissa or anyone else should be allowed to post incorrect recipes and then get five stars. It is really deceptive when one sees a high star rating and then finds out that the dish only works well if you adjust the ingredients.

Was there a typo? Maybe she meant 3/4 lb of orzo rather than 3/4 cup for 3 1/2 cups of liquid. WAY too much liquid, so after I dumped over a cup into the sink after the orzo cooked, the pasta was pretty tasteless. No amount of lemon zest or thyme could save this.

I love watching her, she is so full of energy and life! I just want her to know that there are tons of fans out there that she really connects with. This dish sounds so good.. but then again all her recipes do! I'm a proud stay-at-home mom and a huge fan of Melissa!!!!!!!! :-

I agree with a lot of the other reviewers that there was too much liquid in the recipe, but I just omitted 1 cup of the water and it was perfect and creamy! The fresh thyme and lemon zest just pushed it over the top for me. So easy to make...can't wait to have it again and make a little extra for leftovers.

Made this last night. It was just OK, nothing special; I've made other orzo dishes with more flavor. If you have to buy fresh thyme from the store that can be expensive; I happen to have some in a pot outside. The orzo does not absorb all the liquids in 10 minutes, not even in 20 minutes. Ours was also like soup on the plate. Don't know if I'll make again.
