This recipe is amazing! I made it for my husband after work tonight. He was blown away for a random dinner after work. He licked his plate clean because the sauce was so good!! This is the first time I ever made this but it will not be the last. I will probably use more carrots next time because they were so delicious. It yields plenty of sauce! Yum!

This recipes is FANTASTIC! I used fennel as well as the carrots and onions, and since my roast was larger than the one in the recipe (almost 5 lbs., I had to cook it longer. I cooked it in the oven on 325 in my dutch oven for about 2.5 hrs. The veggies were very soft by the time the meat was done, so hit the sauce with a stick blender before adding the mushrooms and sour cream, which made it very smooth and the perfect consistency. The gruyere melts into the sauce and gives it a wonderful flavor. The pork was tender and delicious. I served it with cabbage sauteed with bacon, apples and onions and garlic mashed potatoes. It was a huge hit!

This is awesome! I have made it twice and today for a third! Today I don't have ham and swiss so I used onions, garlic and Mozzarella, parmesan, and provolone cheese mix.(I am sure it will be wonderful Someone said the cheese doesn't add anything...wrong it adds plenty of flavor!

Easy to make and a HYUGE HIT with hubby, I loved it as well (and that's saying a lot because I don't much care for pork.

Let me start by saying that this recipe was FANTASTIC! I'm a new chef; a novice in the kitchen, if you will, and I'm really trying to BYOC (Be Your Own Chef as per Claire Robinson & I found this dish was pretty easy to prepare. I made it for a Sunday night dinner for my boyfriend & I, and we both devoured it (although we managed to contain ourselves to have leftovers for the next day. You'd never guess it was so simple to prepare based on the 4-star quality results it delivers! You could easily serve this to your soon-to-be in-laws whom you're meeting for the first time, and you'll knock their socks off! This recipe has already made its way into my "Saved/Must Make Again" folder, and I will surely be cookin' up this beauty again!

This was a lovely family meal that was enough for two nights. The gravy was delicious. I have since made this meal on several occasions and passed the recipe on to family and friends. Making sure that both the cheese and ham are sliced very thin are a key and making sure to roll the ham over the cheese in a jelly roll fashion makes it easier to stuff and keeps the cheese from melting all over the place. Secure the ham with the string once stuffed was the hardest part. I think that both the ham and cheese adds something to the recipe. Mashed potatoes was an excellent choice for a complete warm and hearty meal.

Very good, although I did have a problem geeting the ham and cheese stuffed in, and then some of the cheese oozed out. The sauce was delicious, but next time I think I'll "finely dice" rather than "chop" the carrot and onion. Overall, it's a keeper.

I thought this was good, but a bit overworked.
In order to get the right sized pork roast, I bought a pre-packaged one. It was actually in pieces and held together with a net. I had to cut the net off to stuff the roast, which made the whole thing look like a big floppy mess. I don't think the cheese added anything but fat and calories, but the ham added something to the flavor.
I think if this recipe were stripped down a bit, it would be better. There are just too many ingredients and steps that don't really seem to add much to the finished product.

This dish really impressed me and my family/friends! This was my first ever "gourmet" recipe. I never watch TV food shows but I just happened to turn on the TV one day before Christmas, food network channel just happened to be the last channel someone had on and there was this show "10 dollar dinners" which of course caught my attention just from it's title. Surely with that name nothing would be too complicated for even me. After making the recipe, I was so excited that I actually took pictures of it before we ate it. I have NEVER taken pictures of food before in my life! It is hard for me to imagine that after cooking for my family for 31 years I would actually begin to get excited about cooking. My husband is totally loving it!! Food network, how do I send you the picture of my masterpiece?
