Oh my gosh, this was sooooooooo good! I am amazed at how delicious it turned out! Melissa is such a great cook! I'm so grateful she won the food network competition, she is giving me such delicious recipes to cook at my own home. Thanks Melissa! Anyway, back to the dish - the flavors are amazing. The meat is so tender, the sauce is so thick and rich, and the onions and the bacon just complements the dish perfectly! This is a recipe keeper! Do not skip on anything, even include the prunes, they were also delicious. I used light beer, so next time - I will try to see how dark beer would taste with the dish. Overall - excellent!!!

Excellent! We enjoyed this very much. The bacon and onions create a rich base of flavor. Wine and garlic are not missed. ( shocking. Carrots are also excellent.

AMAZING!!! The best Pot Roast ever and my husband doesn't like Pot Roast. My mother lives with me and always watches me cook. She kept waiting for me to add Burgundy wine and since I didn't, I wasn't making Pot Roast right. End result - she was SPEECHLESS! The only things I added were potatoes and garlic. (ssshh - she just came into the room again to tell me how good it was WOW!!!!

Made this dish and used all ingredients as listed. Came out very, very good. Only item I would change in the future is to not keep all the bacon grease. It made it a little too oily for my taste but other than that it was a big hit in my household.

This dish came out very tasty! I don't know much about beer and had never cooked with before, but I am pleased with the results. I used a bottle of Newcastle and a bottom round roast. Also, I forgot to buy prunes at the store, so I used raisins. I added some mushrooms because we really like them, and I let the whole pot simmer on the stove for two hours, instead of the oven because it was being used for something else. Overall, I am very pleased, as was the rest of my family. It is a little more time consuming than I expected, but it is probably due to my inexperience. In spite of the time issue, I will definitely be making this again :

I thought this recipe was very yummy! Everyone in my family ate it and loved it, too. I made with some mashed potatoes. Didn't think it was difficult to make and not worth the effort. Definitely adding to rotation!

Easy to assemble ingredients. Omitted bacon, substituted olive oil for bacon fat. Used an antique Viking roasting pan, which I inherited from my mother. Tender, moist, fabulous recipe. I used Angus bottom round roast, on sale, very tender. Also used 25 year old Balsamic vinegar from Modena, perfection! Spent LESS than ten dollars for this meal, which will serve 6.
