Use all the ingredients, including the prunes, and you will not be disappointed. This is a rich, meaty, tasty treat.

WHERE'S THE BEEF? bottom round roast was used in the tv show demo of this recipe which was touted as a way to turn this "modest" cut of meat into something wonderful. now that the weather is cooler i have come looking for the recipe and wonder, before i try it, why are we now calling for chuck roast? chuck roast is ok (great flavor, but i find it a little stringy and usually very fatty, and together with the grease rendered from 1/2 lb of bacon plus frying oil, i am hesitant to try it, thinking the resulting pan sauce would be half fat. has anyone used bottom round roast in the recipe? MELISSA ----- WHY DID YOU CHANGE THE RECIPE?

My husband and I LOVE this recipe! Absolutely delicious. I've made it a number of times and follow it to the tee. I use Guiness so the flavor is deep and rich. Wonderful!

Marie from NYC July 17th, regardless of your views about pot roast ingredients and how the meat is supposed to be cut and what ingredients a pot roast should have, this is not your typical pot roast, this is called "Pot Roast with elegance and class" and if Julia Child was alive today, her comment to everyone would be "Bon Appetit" and praising Melissa fir her amazing talent.

I tried two of Paula Deans' recipes and two of Aida's and none of them worked out. My entire family loved this one (no leftovers even after I doubled the recipe.

Mellisa, this is the best pot roast, I've ever served my family. They are just raving about it. I may have to change my Sunday dinner for this one. Well done, looking forward to more great recipes. I watch your show all the time.

This recipe ROCKS! I substituted beef short ribs for the pot roast, but otherwise followed the rest exactly. It made the BEST & TASTIEST short ribs. LOVE IT!
