Haven't made the potato bacon torte but I have used the pie crust part of the recipe for my Thanksgiving apple pies and it is perfect. Great taste and so easy to make!

This is obvious but it is an extremely heavy dish. I love potatoes and bacon but with the pie crust it really weighs it down. I would not make this again.

Good idea in principle but I thought that the dish was a bit stodgy with two layers of pastry with the predominantly potato filling. It definitely needs more bacon and more liquid (I will try and use a thin white sauce (1 Tbs butter heated with 1/2 Tbs flour with 1 cup warm milk say next time instead of the cream. Another person's idea of distributing the cheese between the layers seems good too.

We've done this recipe both with the crust recipe Melissa provides and with store bought. Both ways end up amazing. It's definitely rich and you need SOMETHING light and acidic to offset the richness, but WOW is this good. Definitely not an everyday (or maybe even every month recipe, but one I would come back to any time I want potatoes and bacon in its best possible incarnation!

This is an amazing low cost meal. It would be great for dinner or a brunch. I followed the recipe and the flavors were perfect. I may have put a little more Gruyere simply because of the size of the piece I already had on hand. Everyone loved it. I served it with the Cafe Salad and we loved the dressing as well. This will become part of our regular monthly menu I am sure.

My 8 year old helped me make this. She is also a very picky eater. She, as well as my picky 5 year old, LOVED this dish. It is very good and very easy to make.

my husband is a very basic "meat and potatoes" kind of guy, and i am so tired of making the same things over and over again. i saw this on the show and thought, now this is something i think he will definitely like. well, guess what? he LOVED IT, AND SO DID I! the only thing i did different was substitute regular shredded cheddar and jack cheeses, instead of gruyere cheese. it took some time to make, but was extremely phenonenal, delicious, and he said he wants me to make it again!!! it was OUTSTANDING!!! THANK YOU, FOOD NETWORK!!!
