I love salmon cakes and have dozens of recipes for them. This recipe was pretty basic. I was anxious to see a new one and also see how Melissa dealt with the bones, skin and fatty portions of canned salmon. When she hid the salmon and made no mention I turned off the show . I remove the bones, skin and fatty portions, but it also cuts down on the volume of meat . This type of instruction should not be omitted in a recipe aimed at beginning cooks.. My mother used to leave the skin and small bones in , they soften during the canning process and no doubt add calcium. Now that I make my own I take out the things I wouldn't use if the fish was fresh to begin with.

I love salmon but have never prepared canned salmon and the glimpse of it I saw on camera was not exactly appealing. I did not like the fact that when the show returned from commercial, the salmon was prepared and mixed in the bowl with the dressing. The finished cake looked good but the recipe lacks a pretty important prep instruction.

I love this recipe. Watched it on TV with the hubby and he liked the looks and he went out and bought the ingredients from what he remembered and I helped him mix it up, all from memory with watching the show. We removed the bones from the salmon, didn't use the onion (personal perference, and forgot the sugar, and lost the mayo but just added 2 extra eggs to take the place of mayo. He forgot the bread crumbs so we used cracker crumbs and found it to be great. Maybe next time I'll try to do it by the directions. Love being able to find everything in the store or my pantry and not have to make trips to special stores. Small town stores do not tend to carry a lot of things I see on some of the shows. Thanks for a great, easy to fix, recipe.

I made this with two cans of tuna instead of salmon because it's always cheaper if you use what you already have. I had seen this episode a few days ago and was a little unsure because it was fried and had bacon but I thought, what the heck, I'll treat myself. I'm so glad I did because it was really good and came out perfect. Yummy! Thanks for the great recipe. :

This is a new one - a foodnetwork show where you can actually find the ingredients in a store and make a delicious meal without spending your whole day in the kitchen....and get this, all of it is affordable. The pretentious foodies must deplore Melissa for sharing recipies with the rest of us.

I use salmon on my busy nights and usually just throw a side of salmon under the broiler with a marinade. These are lot more work but the flavors were delicious. I substituted fresh salmon (broiled with s&p and panko crumbs. NOTE: The salmon mixture is very wet and loose. After I formed the cakes, I put them in the frig for 10 min so I could handle them easier. Great recipe! This is worth trying at least once.

I want to make this recipe, but I know that the cans of salmon have the bones still in the can. She never addressed it on the show and the instructions are silent too. The silence implies that the bones stay, but that doesn't sound very good. Any suggestions?
