I tried this recipe with the Panko Bread Crumbs instead, it turned really flakey. I also used a red potatoe instead a russet potatoe because thats all I had and it turned out perfect .These are the best Salmon Cakes I have ever tasted and it was really easy to make. My 4 year old daughter who is very picky tried it and keep asking for more. This is a meal I will be making alot, thank you for this delicious recipe.

Having lived on the East Coast for several years, my husband and I miss good fish cakes since moving back to Texas. These definitely measure up on all points. My husband (an excellent cook commented that the salmon wasn't overpowered by fillers. The potatoes, a hint of dijon, lemon zest and onions sweated in bacon grease blended perfectly. I made it according to the recipe along with Melissa's crispy potatoes and roasted asparagus. All three were complete hits. I was asked to put this meal on the permanent recipe list. I record Melissa's episodes and have saved most of her recipes to My Recipe Box. Thank you!

I decided to make these after watching the show. My husband always wants me to make more fish, but I'm not enthusiastic about cooking or eating it. My mom used to make salmon cakes, especially during Lent. So, I tried your version, only I paired them baby peas, buttered noodles with sauteed onions, and an oil and vinegar salad...just like my mom used to serve. Melissa, your salmon cakes are really delicious, and this meal made me so happy to cook and eat with my family because it filled my kitchen with memories of my late-mother. Food is such a connection to our loved ones. I never thought to ask my mom how to make her salmon cakes. I know how to make all the "BIG" meals...the special family recipes...but some everyday ones like this got lost with my mom's passing. This was a forgotten meal from my childhood that I got to enjoy again. An old fashioned meal that I can share with my kids and say "Your Grandma Barbara used to make these for Mommy when I was a little girl." I hope you get to read this because I really want to say, "Thank you, Melissa."

I am not a salmon fan but know it is an excellant food for a healthy diet. I enyoyed salmon fixed this way. I had everythng on had and they turned out great. I did add a teaspoon of sour cream and salsa on the top of each one when they were done cooking for a ganish. It gave it a nice texture and made them a little more fancy. After watching Melissa's show I want to try that recipe. Great Show!

I had a can of salmon so I decided to try this recipe tonight because it sounded easy. My husband and I are not bacon eaters so I just skip that ingredient. I do not feel like we needed the bacon though, they were delicious, creamy, crispy on the outside (I used panko instead of bread crumbs and there were enough cakes so we can take leftovers to work tomorrow (we are only two.
I have also tried her crispy potatoes and her chicken recipe and I have not been let down at all. GREAT JOB Melissa!

I can't wait to try this recipe! I know this is for rating recipes that you've tried, but for some reason Food Network is a very difficult space for me to manuver in and I had trouble finding this recipe until today. I'm disappointed in that this website is not more friendly. please comment. Now on to the recipe. I love salmon cakes and my husband doesn't care for them. While he's out of town I plan to make some and the orzo recipe If I weren't having a knee problem right now, I'd have made them today. Hope tomorrow is better because I'm very eager to try these. In agreement with some of the other comments, I also certainly wish they would either change the time of the show, or repeat it during the week. Sundays at 11:30 (central time is a bad time, and I always forget to tape it. I've only gotten to watch once (salmon day and loved the show. I was so looking forward to Melissa's showand I was soooo glad when she won. I wouldn't watch a show that required new and exotic ingredients, and/or recipes that depended on adding lots of heat. The powers that be were wise to choose Melissa!

I saw this episode and made this recipe the very same day. I already had the ingredients on hand as I love to make salmon cakes. This was very different from the way I have made them in the past, so thanks for giving us something new to try to an old classic. This tasted really good. The only difference is that I used panko which I think crisp up even more than regular bread crumbs. Will make again.

I have never been a big eater of salmon cakes, but this recipe turned that around!! I ate more salmon cakes than I even want to admit after trying this recipe! Crunchy crust on the outside, ooy gooey goodness on the inside! The lemon and bacon flavors definitely stand out! This is a must try!

This looked so good when I watched her make it on her show. Not that impressed with the actual turn out. I guess this would be okay for someone who didn't know how to cook anything but Hamburger Helper. I thought I was eating at a school cafeteria or food mess hall where food needed to be stretched to feed the masses. I did not taste the bacon at all and frankly if you are going to cook with bacon and the added fat, you should at least be able to enjoy it. The potato was so over powering that I wasn't sure if I was eating a potato pancake or salmon cake. Not a lot of flavor anywhere in this dish. True it wasn't horrible, but Melissa could do a lot better in my opinion. I understand feeding a family on a budget, especially in today's economy. I am always looking for something quick, easy and delicious but this just didn't deliver on its promise. I was so looking forward to making a great tasting and inexpensive dish and was sadly let down.

Wonderful -- a must try. My daughter said her favorite part was the addition of the bacon. Haven't had salmon cakes in at least two years and your show reminded me and your recipe looked worth trying. Thank you and I'm looking forward to seeing all of your new shows.
