This was excellent - my husband said to add this one to our favorite recipes!! Only complaint it was time consuming. Next time I would start the bacon at the same time I start the potatoes. Also think it would be phenomenal with ground lamb & guiness as another use stated or with cabbage in it or on the side!!

I wanted to make something special for my husband and shepherds pie is something that he orders when we go out to dinner that I've never made. Partially because I'm just not a big fan of sheperds pie. I'm a pretty good cook and I followed the directions to the letter except, I used dried rosemary instead of fresh. I used a lager for the beer. My HUSBAND LOVED THIS RECIPE!!! He had 2nds and 3rds. I have to say, it's my new go to recipe. It did however take longer than I expected, but next time I'll know what prep work to do in advance.

This is an awesome recipe. Definitely one of our favorites. Very flavorful and tasty. I may not put so much garlic in the potatoes next time, but other than that I wouldn't change a thing.

We loved this recipe. I tweaked it a little. I skipped the bacon and tomato paste and substituted chicken broth for the beer. I didn't have enough potatoes so I added a cooked yam to the potatoes that I had. As I was cooking the beef I added 1/2 tspn. of Emeril's Essence. Instead of fresh carrots and frozen peas, I added a bag of frozen vegetables. This helped to cut back on some of the cooking time, but it did take quite a while from start to finish. I was trying to cut back on some of the fat and omitted the cheese topping. I was pleased with it and I will make it again.

I make this dish everytime I have company over. Everyone loves it. Even the kids! The directions are easy and you can never mess up! Taste great with a salad and a potato roll.
