I made this some time ago and it was surprisingly very good. So many recipes are so-so or almost forgettable, but not this one. Just try it and you be the judge.

made this last night and the family loved it. Few changes: added 1 T un sweetened cocoa to dry mix and additional 1/4 c brown sugar and used all fat free half & half. Did use 2 heaping tablespoons of cornstarch to make sure it thickened. Took about 10 minutes on stove top. tasted like yummy milk chocolate. Will make again for sure.

Followed the recipie exactly. Definately did not taste like butterscotch pudding, more like cinnimon pudding. It also did not set. We had to drink it instead of eat it. Definate waste of time and money

Made this last night and my family ALL LOVED it!! Every single one of them described it "like cinnamon graham crackers in milk". Mine set up just fine but I agree with the others, you have to make sure you round your spoons of cornstarch and also to cook it long enough (I cooked mine 10 minutes stirring constantly. I think they should change the name of this because 1. It doesn't taste like butterscotch and 2. If it did taste like butterscotch it would not be as good!! I have been describing this as a "cinnamon vanilla pudding". Also, for anyone concerned about the cayenne, it's NOT spicy at all if you just use a dash like the recipe says. It adds a subtle warmth on the palette finish that you almost don't even notice. Although, if you're still concerned, just leave it out! The pudding will still be delicious. I can't wait to use this as a base recipe to try many different combinations. My mind is swimming with the possibilities!! Oh, and I used all 1/2 and 1/2 (2 cups for mine.

I didn't much care for the cayenne pepper when I made this actual receipe. But the thing I really got from this recipe is that to make pudding all you need is one tablespoon of cornstarch to one cup of creamy milk (milk with cream added I have used that formula to make all kinds of puddings. The latest one is peanut butter with fresh banana and cinnamon. Most other homemade pudding recipes require several egg yokes and tempering and all kinds of crap I don't have time for. So this is AWESOME, and it tastes good.

I think that store bought packages come out better. On the other hand this was an easy recipe to make. I would elliminate the cayenne pepper at the end. It left a bad afer taste in your mouth like something was scratching your throat. Sadly I trashed everything I made becuase of the cayenne. If that had not been there I would have bared it since i dont like wasting food.

I usually absolutely LOVE Melissa's recipes. I made the entire menu last night and the only real failure was the pudding. It never set up. It was my first try at a non-boxed pudding and I was so excited.

It apparently was good tasting since my friend and the person I was honoring as a "dad" chose to drink it like a martini. He licked the bowl but I threw the rest down the drain.

I'm going to try and find a better recipe.

    Bummer.
