I have loved most of Melissa's recipes but this one is really impressive. I did all the prep work this morning before I left for work and had it all in the fridge, ready to go when I got home. The assembly was a breeze. I LOVE being able to do the clean up and set up the service while it cooked. Keeps kitchen mess to a minimum. I didn't have the beans so for the vegetable side I used up the small portions of several other vegetables I had left over in the fridge or freezer from other meals - baby zucchini, baby crookneck, a bit of cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, tomato and asparagus tips and a touch of onion. The biscuit recipe is very good, but tonight I chose to use baby red bliss potatoes with a bit of butter, olive oil, chives and parsley. It's apple festival time here so I used some apples to make an apple upside down cake with with vanilla sauce for dessert. My family wants me to repeat this one. I will, too. It as so easy and delicious!

To answer the msg below concerning finding harissa....if you do a search on the Food Network website, you can find a recipe for it......very inexpensive to make.
I watched Melissa make this dish on her show today....and I intend to make it....it sounded easy to make and very flavorful.
I 've watched four episodes of this show and, while I enjoy it, I don't believe most of her meals could be made for $10.

I will review this recipe when I actually cook this. But I have to say that when it comes to the showing of this episode you have to consider time zones people. Here in Nevada it is Pacific time and the show did not air until 12.30pm. As for the wine our grocery store (Albertsons sells Galleo red and white wine (187mls which is just a little shy of 1 cup. The Lee Liquor Store sells the same size in various brands. You might try looking at the wine sections in your grocery stores if you State allows it. As for fresh herbs, there is only 2 of us so buy fresh would mean a lot going to waste I just use dried and less of it. Melissa is cooking like she has the basics in her kitchen pantry. If you have to buy every ingredient then it is going to cost you more.

This is one heck of a good recipe...tried it and loved it...thanks, Melissa.
Do try to keep your working station a bit tidier, though.

This was delicious. I saw the show and then ran out to get the ingredients. I served it with mashed potatoes, salad, and baked French bread topped with butter and parmesan cheese. Will definitely make again. Since you can't purchase just two stalks of celery, or one cup of wine, or two tablespoons of flour, etc, etc, I think the $10 figure assumes you already have certain items on hand or calculates the cost of a portion of a particular item. Melissa did say the cost of the biscuits was about a dollar and the pork was about $4. The point of her show seems to be that you can make a tasty meal without breaking the bank. If you go over $10, cut back on the butter in one of Paula's recipes to make up the difference.

This episode showed braised pork, drop biscuits, and beans all for $10 dollars. I don't believe it. She used red wine, whole wheat flour, and she took a hunk of fresh parmensan cheese out of the fridge. If nothing else, you have to drink the wine once it's opened- hey no complaints here- but that has to be factored into the cost. She never showed any of the prices! I realize this is a very inexpensive meal. Pork shoulder is as low as 69 cents per pound- but, this was not ten dollars, even if you assume the person cooking has every dried herb she used and the white flour. C'mon Melissa. And if it was ten dollars- why wouldn't they show the prices?

I love braised meat and this was a simple dish to make with easy to find and relatively inexpensive ingredients. Very flavorful and hearty. I served the pork with mashed potatoes. I will be making this dish again. Thanks Melissa!
