In a hurry to prepare dinner last night, I settled upon this recipe. So simple to put together, yet the flavors burst in your mouth! My husband is a meat and potatoes man, but he loved this recipe and one serving filled him up! It was also a big hit with my two children (ages 9 and 13. A very filling, tasty meal, yet not heavy. Perfect for Spring and Summer!

My husband and I made this simple meal for dinner last night. It is a perfect combination of flavors, light yet satisfying with the bread and tuna to bulk up the salad. Thanks for a great recipe and cost-effective approaches to cooking!! I will be making this recipe again soon!

I enjoyed the salad but the cost of making it was well over $10.00 so I can only assume that the cost is only based on the olives, tuna, and bread.

...so much in fact that my bf and I ate the entire thing, all 4 servings. Ooops! Definitely an easy staple dinner for a busy weeknight.

Caught the show yesterday. Thought I would give the "Tonno Bread Salad" a try.
What can I say? Amazing, incredible, delicious. My wife and I were immediately transported to the Mediterranean. I toasted the bread into croutons for extra crunch.

I made it today for myself. I had most of the ingredients at hand. I spiked the bread, since I'm staying away from too many carbs. I will try it again soon!

My husband and I love this salad. He couldn't stop eating it, it was so good. It reminds me of the South of France. Will definitely make this one over and over again. Love it!

This whole concept of "under $10" is utterly ridiculous. This assumes that you have EVERY single ingredient on hand. The carrot soup from this recipe called for white wine--that alone will cost you at the very least $5 (for the cheap stuff. Store bought chicken stock is nearly roughly $2.49 a carton. This bread salad is impossible to make under $5 as she stated on the show. A regular can of tuna is about $1.50 or more, depending on the brand and type of tuna. She's using an imported brand that has to cost much more than $1.50, and then she said, "It's more expensive, but it's still less expensive." WHAT? Now if you price items regularly when you shop, you also know that shallots are NOT cheap. For a package of 2 small shallots, you're looking at over $2.50. Where I live, we don't have the luxury of "day old" bread aisle, you'd have to go to a bakery for that. So let's say you had to buy a fresh loaf; that's not cheap. On sale, fresh deli bread is at least $1.99--again, that's ON SALE. Cherry tomatoes...a container is about $1.99 or more. So if you don't have ANY of those ingredients on hand--and who does--this recipe ALONE is well over $8--and that's just for the ingredients I listed. These shows that claim you can make these meals under $10 is a total crock!! I love the recipes, but don't try to manipulate the viewers into thinking they are making 'budget" meals when they aren't. If you had to go out and buy every ingredient she used on these shows, you'd spend well over $50. Again...to assume everyone has particular ingredients on hand is ridiculous.

So Ash Wednesday sneaked up on me again and I found myself needing a fast but meatless dinner. I decided to try this recipe (although I didn?t think my family would like any of the ingredients except the tuna because I had almost everything on hand, even the day old baguette. I used two cans of albacore in oil, since they were in my pantry. My kids didn?t hesitate and ate all of it, even my ?food can?t touch? kid. I was amazed. A perfect Lenten meal and we didn?t give up anything! Fantastic!
