Fabulous! I made this for a dinner party and every little bit was eaten. I added whiskey fennel sausage and cooked it in the oven at 275 for about three hours because I had to run errands! When I got back I turned up the temperature to 350 and added the bread crumbs and followed the rest of the recipe. There was a great depth of flavor from the additional cooking time and the beans had a nice crustiness to them. It was very filling and just the right thing to serve on a chilly, Fall evening in New England.

This is delicious!! I used seasoned panko instead of the garlic breadcrumbs and did everything else per the recipe. Very tasty!! And excellent leftovers (the little bit that wasn't gobbled up lol.

After watching you make this twice I finally got to make it. The beans were great. It even tasted wonderful when I discovered I only had sherry left for my wine choice....sorry...
Nice hearty dinner. We'll make it again when the snow flies.

This was a great recipe that will work great as is and allow variations as to meats and amounts. Sausage and ham works well also. The flavors are excellent. I will use it for a group dinner soon. Many thanks, Melissa.

Griping about spending an hour on a cassoulet? (Check out the traditional cooking time. Learn to use flavors your family prefers in a recipe. I added Italian turkey sausage instead of bacon the 2nd time I made it-wonderful! I've also added fennel, or Herbes de P., to the basic recipe, or added Romano cheese--rocks with bacon! I love Melissa's food, and the way that she cooks. A lot of her tips are things I've used for years (the bacon lardon thing, for one, but she also comes up with quite a few I've never thought of.

This is probably my favorite "go to" recipe. There is nothing difficult about it yet it tastes like you spent all day cooking. I have changed up the beans and bread crumb topping to fit what is in my pantry at that time. The chicken is tasty but the vegetable combination is the best out of the entire meal!! Inexpensive and definitely cost effective!
