This is the best green bean salad I've ever tasted. The taste is so rich a flavorful with the brandy and red wine. My family requests this dish for every holiday gathering, not just Thanksgiving! As for the onion rings, I used tempura flour and semolina mixed. The onions were delicious. If you try this recipe, you'll never want to buy the processed ones from the store again. I made a double batch and stored half in an air tight container.

Also didn't bother making onion rings from scratch... Just buy the French Fried Onions from the grocery store! Easy as pie!

We love these. any one know how we can make the onion rings and travel on an airplane with them. I was wondering if they will freeze well?

i absolutely hate the traditional green bean casserole. this couldn't be more different or more delicious! quick, easy and so good! it ended up being the favorite side dish, 2 years running!

Based on others' reviews, I am attempting this recipe. I want to know, however, what I am supposed to do with all the left over oil. Can one reuse it? Should it go to a recycling center when I am finished with it? Chefs rarely give this kind of practical, necessary tip.

I made this exactly according to the recipe and it was really bland and soggy.

I made it for Thanksgiving, needing a hearty, somewhat traditional dish. It wasn't gross casserole with canned soup--it was an elegant dish with gorgeous flavors that was complemented further by the amazing Pinot we were serving. Easy to prepare, an absolute joy to eat, I'll be making it again and again.
