Thank you, Michael! I'm wondering if the Cognac and wine are a must. (We don't always keep wine around the house and brandy is a rarity. I will find out.

Made this for Thanksgiving dinner (without the onions. It was the first side to go and it was the dish that go the most compliments. My husband asked me to make it again the Sunday after Thanksgiving!! You may need to boil the red wine and brandy down more than the recommended time, mine needed a few more minutes; ditto for the beans. This dish is a keeper.

I make this recipe throughout the year, as often as I can!! I can't stand the "traditional" green bean casserole ever since I made this last Thanksgiving. Thank you Michael!

My family loved it when I tried it out a few days ago. I will be making it for Thanksgiving. The best part is the fried onion rings. They were easy to make. I don't even own a deep fryer.

I am sure I am not the only person in this world that hates mushrooms yet all the cooks continue to put them ih EVERYTHING!!! Enough already. Leave them out, I do. I use cream of celery for the soup and NEVER EVER put those fungi in my food!!

We love our comfort foods- traditional green bean casserole, green beans and bacon, etc. But green beans are great blanched and sauteed! So not all people in the south "get a good laugh" at cooking green beans that way!
That being said, this recipe was fabulous! Buuuut a little labor intensive to still call it green bean casserole. As much as I hate to admit it, I like the mushy version with the French's onions.

How long you blanch your beans depends on the bean. Fresh French 3-4 min. Most people prefer the string bean 6-7 min. Other than that this recipe rocks.

We really enjoyed this recipe for our early thanksgiving. My sister doesn't care for the original green bean casserole much so this year we thought we would try something new. I am so glad that we did, this recipe smelled, looked, and tasted amazing! I cute pearl onions and added them to the dish and also used bella mushrooms instead of white button! Always nice to try something new, especially when it turns out so good!

How is this even a casserole? It's just beans, mushrooms, and onions thrown in a bowl with some sauce!
As far as "light and fresh" as another reviewer put it - I don't want "light and fresh" on Thanksgiving...I want something that'll stick to my ribs.
