This comes with the caveat that I and most of my friends strongly dislike Campari, but one of my friends said it best:
"The only way to describe this drink would be to say it tastes like a bottle of bitter tasting perfume and gin exploding in your mouth!"
Campari and vermouth are also relatively expensive. You'd probably be better off with a gin or vodka and tonic (maybe spice it up with some fresh fruit? OR you can ask each couple to bring a cheap bottle of wine that they like to the party.

My husband & I are not Italian and we have never cared much for Campari, however, this drink is a nice blend of all of the ingedients and even though it is somewhat bitter, it is a nice before dinner drink.
