This is a great recipe. For Thanksgiving I was looking for something new to do with potatoes and with this recipe I found it, They were really good and easy to do. Everyone really liked the potatoes. I recomend this recipe to everyone out there who is looking to spice up their mashed potatoes.

I tried to make this recipe two years in a row for thanksgiving. The first year I put in to much heavy cream, and it was soupy. This year I didn't put enough. The recipe is delicous, but can be annoying to make. I don't think it should be rated as easy. I also could not find a food mill!

I left out one stick of butter adn the left over olive oil - probably will leave out the cream next time - but I have ta tell you - this is a winner!!! For Thanksgiving I was so pleased to have my in-laws go from disapproval while making it to asking for the recipe...oh yea!

Even though I made a few alterations to the recipe, these mashed potatoes turned out wonderfully. I replaced about half the amount of butter and heavy cream with chicken broth instead to make the potatoes lighter and less fatty, and I nixed the extra olive oil altogether. What really makes these potatoes special is the roasted garlic paste. Excellent overall.

if you love garlic and butter you will love these, they were the best mashed potatoes ever, i think i will make them with less half and half next time, i like them a little thick and when you add all the butter it loosens it up rather than sticking to your ribs.

This is the first recipe I've made from this show that I was disappointed in. It looked great on t.v., but I found it to be too rich, even though I cut down on the butter called for in the recipe.
I didn't have much luck with the food mill, maybe professional equipment would work better than what the home cook usually has. I'll stick with the potato ricer and the hand masher.
I made this for Thanksgiving, and luckily made a separate dish of old-fashioned mashed potatoes. Those were gone, whereas this dish of the Roasted garlic potatoes had few scoops out of it. We did enjoy having the extra roasted garlic to dip our dinner rolls into.

Using the basic recipe, I changed the ingredients to 3 lbs. of potatoes, 1 & 1/4 lbs. of garlic, 2 sticks of butter and light cream. The dish "rocked". It will be a staple of my holiday meals.

after all of the effort that we put into these potatoes, in addition to all of the rave reviews, i really expected a lot more. of course i expected a very intense garlic flavor, but i also expected/hoped for a rich and comforted feeling as opposed to becoming almost nauseated.
