I discovered this drink 10 years ago and THIS is not it. The drink has become so popular that almost every mexican restaurant has it here in TX. Years ago, I went to Mexico just an hour south of the border and my uncle from Monterrey made me a michelada and it was spicy, limey, but he did add a splash of clamato or tomato juice.

If someone served me Marcela's recipe after I ordered it, I would probably pour it on their shoes and leave. C'mon, beer, lime and salt? AND ICE?!?!

this is beer w/ lime and salt which is nothing new. add dashes of both worcestershire and hot sauce then you'kk get a michelada. to go a step further, add about 3-4 oz of clamato then you'll get a bloody beer.

had high hopes for this show but am disappointed thus far. why does her accent go from plain american to over-the-top mexican when she pronounces a mexican word?

Michelada is a spicy beer-based mexican cocktail that usually contains: lemon juice, salt, tabasco, worcestershire sauce and jugo maggi (a soy sauce-ish mexican seasoning. Lemon pepper and clamato can also be added. Adding lemon and salt to a beer would make a chelada not a michelada.

I'm from San Luis Potosi and Ive been drinking micheladas for years and ive traveled to differents parts of Mexico and that is not the way you make a michelada. I was excited when Marcela mentioned that she was going to make a michelada i thought " How exciting viewers are going to see the blend of spices that makes this drink so tasty". I was shocked when all she added was lime... everyone does that!

I was drinking Michelada's years ago in Monterrey, Mexico---El Barrio Viejo to be exact, before they were a hit in the US and it had lime juice, salt and used Tecate beer. No Clamato, no Tabasco---I don't know who decided that should be used but keeping it simple is just as good then putting all that other stuff in it.

I have had my share of lime flavored beer and have gone so far as to put lime juice in regular beer, but the notion of a salt rimmed mug never crossed my mind, it's great! Thanks for the idea MV!
