Ingredients

  • 1 bag (12 ounces) whole fresh cranberries, well washed and patted dry
  • 1 thin skinned, seedless oranges, well washed and dried
  • 1 cup sugar

Directions

Make sure there are no seeds in oranges. Cut the oranges into quarters and then chop them up roughly. Either in a meat grinder or in a food processor chop the raw cranberries and oranges. Transfer to glass or ceramic serving bowl and add the sugar. Cover with plastic and let stand for 24 hours. Refrigerate after that; this will keep for 2 weeks. Leftovers can be combined with mayonnaise and used as a dressing for leftover turkey sandwiches.

    Cranberry relish

I've been making this relish since I was a little girl with my grandmother. We still make it before holidays using an old... meat grinder and get the grandchildren to do all the grinding. They look forward to it every year. You can also add half a peeled & cored apple, it makes it even tastier. If you make alot, put in canning jars and refrigerate. It will keep for a couple of months. It also makes a great hostess gift at the holidays.Read more

I've been making and eating and enjoying this recipe for 50 years, and now I make it with Splenda (diabetic in home), and I... use it to make Cranberry pie, but also add raisins to the relish, And I also make frozen Cranberry-orange Yogurt. It is delicious. I've also used it in scones. Best is As is!. I've introduced this recipe to my Maritiem friends, and they wonder why it isn't on the packages of cranberries in Canada... Good question. With the recipe, there is NEEER a reason to ever serve boild cranberry sauce, EVER!! This recipe is rated in my home way above anything else I have ever served.Read more
