Really good, and really quick! I also used canned clams (geisha brand and it turned out just fine.

I thought this recipe was great, but it did need a little extra seasoning to it. I added more thyme, a little old bay seasoning, and a couple shakes of Tobasco and it was wonderful. It was easy to make and a big crowd pleaser.

Three major course corrections are needed to make this chowder taste as it should.
1 MORE TIME -- This is not NEARLY enough time for your roux to lose its "raw" taste.

2 LESS THYME -- I thik maybe 1 teaspoon would balance the flavor better -- a Tablespoon is just way too much.

3 REMOVE THE BAY LEAVES!!! Nobody wants to eat a bay leaf -- get the flavor out and then discard. I prefer putting them in the pot liquor the potatoes are boiling in.

But overall -- with these alterations -- this is my go-to recipe! Good stuff!!!

I have lived in CT all my life and could not make a good clam chowder. I saw this episode and filed it in my memory. For lent I thought I'd try this recipe and was amazed at how easy it was to make. But the real kicker is, it came out better than my favorite seafood restaurant's chowder. Thanks Guy!!!! Love it!!

I have had years of success using a recipe incorporating HIDDEN VALLEY RANCH DRESSING MIX (secret ingredient, but I gave this a try anyway. Very pleasantly surprised. It's a bit lighter and was a big hit, I'll definitely make this again. BTW, I used canned clams (always do and no-one is the wiser.

this is absolutely the best chowder I have ever made! I have also added crab and shrimp to it with great results! Served it as a first course at a sit down Christmas dinner with some added real cream and it was a HUGE hit. Everyone love, loved loved it! A keeper!
