Pour syrup in the bottom of the glass. Fill glass completely with crushed ice. Place 5 sprigs of fresh mint on top of ice and bruise with the back of a spoon. Pour bourbon over crushed ice, to the top of the glass. Dip remaining 2 sprigs of mint in powdered sugar and place on top of drink. Place a straw in the glass so that you can taste the mint, and you can smell the mint while you sip the drink.
