I made this on a whim, and didn't expect much because I'm usually pretty picky about my sloppy joes. It was delicious! I added extra jalapenos and it was perfect! So easy to prepare, everyone loved it and went back for seconds.

Very flavorful, but I suspect too spicy for most people. The 1/2 jalapeno and 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne really gives it a kick. And this coming from someone who loves a good spicy dish. Cut back on the cayenne and go with some mild green chilies and my sense is it'll meet a broader range of tastes.
The brown sugar is absolutely essential ... really balances the other spice notes.
As I was eating this I kept thinking, "This would be *great* over pasta."

I used to love the school lunch sloppy joes(60's - haven't found a recipe that was as good - until now. This recipe ROCKS!!!!! Doubled the recipe for just my husband and I - there are leftovers, but only because of some will power. we both LOVED it!!
