I tried this dish for the New Year and the family went wild over it. I went to the frig for a midnight snack and found the empty bowl in the sink. The next time around, I doubled the recipe! This salad is great all year round!!!

Love, love this salad. Definitely a summer staple when everyone wants to outside and around the grill. Make it ahead and make a double batch, it will be gone!

I made this on New Years Day as my "black eyed peas" contribution to the day. The kids starting getting hungry so I poured it into a bowl & served as a dip with tortilla chips. It was gone in about 30 minutes - I kept having to refill the chip & dip bowl. Noone knew it was supposed to be a side dish & everyone from 5year olds to 65 year olds were eating it & loving it!

I made this to take to a party for New Years Eve...it never did see midnight! Long gone before Baby New Years could make his appearance...so much for luck.
My mistake was not doubling the recipe, and leaving some at home. My husband asked me to next time leave at least a small bowl full at home.
Also, I recommend if taking this anywhere, bring some copies of the recipe, you will be asked for it!

This will be great for those hot summer get-to-gethers as well, can't waot to make it again!

I called this Texas Caviar, but this is over the top. I love Pat and Gina, especially Gina. Pat is my idea of a real man in that he seems to truly love her. I didn't know how to make the marinade and it makes the dish. Very easy to follow recipes, very flavorful, very southern. My mom no longer cooks, she lives with us now and the Neelys is her very favorite show. (she likes Guy too Katie

I saw the episode the day after Christmas and decided to make it for New Years - I'm not big into traditional black eyed peas. It was really good and balanced out the heaviness of the greens and ham well. I've had a similar dish from a restaurant near Atlanta that they called "Redneck Caviar".

I call it Texas Caviler. I love it and the only chance the Neelys made was rice wine vinagar.
Like above they give good food advice and recipes but Gina is too much to stomach.

I made this salad for my family and they raved about it. It definitely gets better as it marinates and is refreshing. I made a double batch, but now my mom wants to make even another batch.

I watched this show in awe...I love black-eyed pea salad... I been making this for years but never tried it with rice. That was a wonderful twist...I make mine with small sea shell pasta. Thanks for the idea.
