PERFECT! Trust me, if followed correctly, this is a MASTERPIECE. In a dutch oven, I cooked the bacon just like the recipe stated. I then added some onion and garlic powder, Red Pepper Flakes, Lawry's seasoning and a little salt and pepper to the bacon. Add these seasonings to your liking but I used about a teaspoon of them all. After the bacon cooked, I added chicken stock instead of plain water for flavor of course. I also added 3 small pieces of smoked turkey necks to the pot. I covered it and let it simmer for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Then I added the carrots for the remainder which was an hour more. Don't forget to stir the cabbage. I omitted smash seasoning because I didn't have celery seed or lemon pepper but in my opinion my version is out of this world. The end result was VERY TASTY. The smoked turkey necks is the secret in this recipe. This is my preferred method of cooking cabbage from now on. Enjoy everyone.

Flavor delish but b/f thought it was a bit too spicey. For those with a tender palate you may want to ease up on the cayenne a bit. Definitely took closer to an hour for the carrots to be cooked.

Great recipe never tried braised cabbage before now....mine was done in about 45 mins to an hour... but was delicious! In the future I'll have to double the recipe. Only 4 stars because the time is SO off on this recipe.

I've been making this recipe for years - decades in fact. This is an everyday southern cabbage recipe.

I loved this recipe! This turned out GREAT, Not too spicey at all.. I did, however cut the cooking time in half.. Cabbage was not mushy, and just tender enough. I also added a little extra bacon grease I usually have in the fridge from breakfast sometimes...GREAT! I make this alot now!

I love this recipe. This is now my go-to cabbage recipe but you CANNOT cook cabbage for 2 hours, it will be nothing but mush. Stir cabbage every few minutes so that all of the cabbage will be incorporated and softened. Cook 10 minutes for the cabbage alone, age carrots and cook for another 10-15 minutes.
