I added more smash seasoning and an additonal lb of cabbage. I cooked for an hour 45 minutes for cabbage 15 for carrots combined. I left the lid on French oven to let the carrots get good and tender. I also used smoked neckbones with the bacon for more seasoning. The neckbones tasted great with all the flavor going on. Thanks Pat and Gina.

I liked this recipe, especially the seasonings but I NEVER cook cabbage for two hours--it's too mushy. Rather, i saute in 2 tablespoons butter and 2 tablespoons olive oil until soft, but not mushy. Great flavor and doesn't take as long. Other than that, the ingredients used to enhance the cabbage and the seasonings are great!

I made this for my family and we love it so much and it was not to spice for us. I collect recipes and this is a keeper. Thanks Gina and Pat

After the two hours were up, I noted that that the cabbage in the pot now looked like cabbage mush, but I went ahead and added the bag of baby carrots and let them cook.

I tasted the resulting dish before serving and thought that it might be a little spicy? A little spicy is an understatement! I ate about three bites and my wife maybe two bites. We decided that anytime a recipe calls for one teaspoon of cayenne pepper, I will cut it at least by half. We ended up discarding the remainder, as there was no way we could eat it. It also was not very appetizing with the cabbage turned to mush.

If you would like to make this dish, I recommend cutting the cooking time by at least an hour and adding a little of the spices to your taste, not the recipe.

I really did enjoyed cooking this for my family tonight. The twins loved it and my 16 yr old son had three helpings. I did use less of the smash especially the cayenne pepper and also I added an red onion and a little of regular sugar about 1/3 of a cup so delicious. Also I did leave out the carrots and cooked only for an hour. The next time I will add the carrots and not forget this time. I will be cooking this recipe again in the near future.

So disappointed, this recipe is ridiculously hot. Spicey is one thing, but for a cabbage dish, it's just NOT necessary. Will NOT be saving this recipe.

Based on some reviews that this cabbage recipe was too hot/spicy, I used only 1 tablespoon of the Smash Seasoning and ? tablespoon salt (plus more. This dish was plenty hot enough for me using less Smash than the recipe called for. I only cooked my cabbage for about one hour, and it was tender enough for me (I didn?t want it mushy. This dish turned out great! I love the combination of the mellow cabbage, the smoky bacon, the sweet carrots and the salty spice mixture. I will definitely make this again.

My family loved it. I also took the Smash Seasoning recipe. . made a big batch. . filled some $1.00 Spice Shakers for Holiday presents. I printed this cabbage recipe and attached it to the Shaker. It's super cheap and gives the receiver something personal....good when you not spending big bucks. Lastly, the seasoning can has cayeene peper...I have used a little less to tone down the pepper. The carrots tone down the pepper too. It's still good doing that!!!!
