My husband made this and we loved it. Our son's 10 & 13 never would eat cabbage before but now they want it all the time. The only thind different we did was instead of water he use chicken broth and added smoked sausge. We have loved almost everything we have tried from your show. Thanks

I have only cooked cabbage 2 or 3 times at most and its just ok. But after trying this recipe I will make more often. Didnt use carrots and used less of the smash seasoning and it turned out great!

The cayenne in the "smash seasoning" made this recipe too hot for us. I threw it all out and did the same with the recipe card. It might be better if I had left the cayenne out, but I really just prefer cooked cabbage with onion, butter, and smoked sausage or bacon for seasoning. They evidently like their food hotter in Memphis than we do.

I didn't think I'd be a fan of cooked cabbage. I took the advice and cooked carrots for longer (about 30-45 min, and cabbage for less (about an hour and a half and it turned out GREAT. Kids thought it was a bit spicy, but hubby and I LOVED it. If you are not into spicy food, cut the smash seasoning in half, but if you do love spicy food the seasoning is just perfect. This recipe is a definite keeper.

This recipe is not a keeper! Made it tonight and will discard tomorrow. I like my cabbage recipe that I make much much much bettger! I put potatofes, onions, apples and smoked sausage in it. A complete meal with little or no effort.
The smash seasoning is not very good either. Here again I like my own seasoning which is a take off of emerils.

This was the best cabbage that I've made thanks to this recipe. Although I didn't use all the ingredients in the "Smash Seasoning" this turned out great. I also didn't use carrots my family doesn't like them.

Followed hints from other reviewers about how long to steam the cabbage. I steamed for about 1-1/4 hr then dropped the carrot slices in for about 15 min.

Went off on my own and cooked with what I had in the fridge. I had no bacon, so I used 1/4 lb of spicy sausage and a handful of pepperoni slices. Had no lemon pepper so I put some black pepper & lemon zest in.

Very interesting flavor, I like celery seed, but for those who don't? try Mustard seed. One could change this up in many ways as long as they stick to the basics.

Ever since I can remember we have had cabbage on New Years Day along with the blackeyed peas. I have never liked cabbage. I watch the Neely's show for the first time several months ago and they were cooking "get yo man chicken" and this cabbage dish. WE LOVE IT! It's our new tradition for New Years! OH I had to cut the hot pepper back to 1/2 the amount but we just love this dish!

I made your "nana cinnamon rolls" too and they were great!

I love trying the new dishes!

You can also find a similar recipe in Patti LaBelle's cookbook but instead of just cabbage and potatoes, she uses potatoes as well. Good recipe overall!
