I wanted something quick and easy...This hit the spot! My husband and son both loved it. I will make this again. I will also make sure I beat the steaks a little more because they were a little chewy but this was my fault.

I've made this twice now. I'm not a huge fan of chicken fried steak in general, but my husband loves it. The first time it turned out great! The second time, not so much. It was my fault though, I forgot to pound out the cube steaks. They turned out so tough, we could barely chew them. So don't forget that important step!!! It really does make a difference.
However, I'm giving 4 stars because I did have to double the gravy recipe and the seasoning because, as others have said, it's very bland without doubling the seasoning. Also, there isn't enough gravy if you just do what the recipe called for.

I must say, it was sooo good...and the gravy was excellent! Of course you have to add your own seasonings to both the meat and the gravy to taste..I will be making this again!

This I will make often. I used top round steak, followed the recipe and it came out perfect. Including the gravy.
This was a hit tonight for dinner.

I love the Neelys! They are very entertainning and cook some good food! However, I did make this recipe and I was very dissapointed at how bland the batter is on the steaks.. and the gravy as well. I am from the South (New Orleans and we like lots of flavor!!

Since I hate recipes that say "salt and pepper" but don't say how much salt and pepper to use I went to Alton Brown's recipe and used 2 tsp of sea salt and 2 tsp of pepper outside of that this recipe was Neely's all the way and this meal turned out excellent and this is coming from someone who lives in Texas and makes chicken fried steak all the time. I loved he addition of paprika and cayenne pepper which is something not typically used here in Texas, the end result was fanastic and was well worth the time and effort. I ended up with a very flavorful and remarkably tender chicken fried steak and plan to use this "batter" recipe the next time I make fried chicken just out of sheer curiousity. Thanks Neeley's!

I have just started watching Food Network and cooking using recipes. Up till now I have always just made the same old variations of chicken, beef and so on which have been passed down from Grandparents, Mom and friends. Well, I wanted to make something different for my husband last night and I was browsing thru Food Network recipes on my computer and I came across this recipe, had all the ingredients, followed the recipe to the letter and I really wasn't sure how it turned out..until my husband began raving about how great the food was. I made smashed yukon gold potatos with sour cream and parmesean cheese where before I would only use butter and milk with a hand mixer and served it along with the chicken fried steak with gravy and it was delicious. The Neely's are one of my favorite Food Network chefs. They are such a cute couple who cook well with each other and make wonderful foods which we and all relate to, they just kick it up a bit! Will definitely make this again. Thanks for inspiring me Pat and Gina!
