I made this recipe with pork chops instead of the cube steak and it came out great. My family loved it. It was nicely fried, juicy and flavorful. The gravy was the icing on the cake! I also made it with the broccoli mashed potatoes and I must say this was the best meal i've ever made.

That was my husband's response when I made this. I used way more cayenne and paprika than the recipe called for and it came out very flavorful. I agree with the commenter who said it didn't turn out a very pretty color brown, but it tasted great. I made it with the smashed potatoes and broccoli and both were delicious.

We watched the Neely's the day after Thanksgiving and printed this recipe. The Neely's looked liked they were having so much fun together and made it look easy. So..we love to cook in the kitchen like them, and thought this would be a great new staple to our newly designed Johnson Recipe Book. We put the recipes in a sheet protector and took a picture like Queen Latifah in the movie "Last Holiday". We followed the recipe verbatum and ours turned out almost identical to the picture. The gravy was thick and didn't overpower the steak. We like thick gravy and it didn't smother the crunchy edges. Thank you Gina and Pat for being our "cooking mentors".

If I can do this anyone can! I soaked the steaks in milk before dredging in seasoned flour, then egg, then seaoned flour again.

This was perfect and fried up just delish!!

    WE loved it!!!!!

I agree with the comment that this recipe was not very flavorful. After reading that review, I even changed the ratios to up the spices and reduce the flour ratios. But I will definately do the process again, just will adjust the spices a little more. I enjoy this show and their recipes, so far only two of eight which I tried were not that great. I tried this one with chicken as well as steak; I liked the chicken version better.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because mine turned out good but not that great. The frying part took way longer than expected. The steaks tasted fine but I think using a meat tenderizer would've helped with the meats toughness.

The wierd thing was that contrary to the other posts my gravy needed more flour to thicken it instead of needing more liquid. Maybe my measurments were off. Still, it turned out good and my wife loved it. She didn't like the homemade gravy though, she made her own brown gravy from the packet.

After reading a "below average" review I adjusted the seasoning in the flour. Came out better than I had imagined it would. You will need more liquid for the gravy. My wife also loved it and we will definitely make it many more times.

We watched the show yesterday and were waiting until we could finally make this wonderful dish tonight. The recipe was simple and the end result was exactly as expected: delicious! Chicken fried steak at a restaurant can be mediocre to outstanding. This recipe and result were just as hoped for! It reminded me of when we used to live in North Carolina and became addicted to Southern cooking. While chicken fried steak with the cream gravy may not be calorie conscious, it was worth the splurge!

P.S. If their mothers want to come over to our house to enjoy this dinner, I am sure they would love it!

I saw this made this morning on TV and it looked really good. In reality, the steak takes on a dark, unappetizing color when you cut into it. And the crust has no flavor; the recipe should have said to add salt to the flour mixture.

The gravy? The proportions in the recipe are wrong. The amount of milk called for is not nearly enough liquid; I used another cup of vegetable broth to get the gravy to a smooth consistency rather than paste.

I'll make the gravy in the future, but will not bread the cube steaks.

Too bad about the taste. This was a fun and easy recipe for the most part.

The Neelys are really enjoyable to watch. This was my first recipe from them. I'll try one or two more.
