I'm a newlywed, and for this past Thanksgiving I made this dish to bring to the family dinner. Not only was it DELICIOUS, but it was super easy to make. My new fam thought it was a big hit..and that meant alot coming from a family of cooks. lol

I just made this. I couldn't find the chocolate-caramel wafers, so I just used regular chocolate wafers and got mini caramel bits and added them. Its cooling now, I'll let you know how it turns out. Hopefully great.

I made this dessert on Easter Sunday, as a trial run for a bridal shower and OMG! It was so good, my family kept coming back for more. And, it was so easy. I made one change in the whipped topping instead of cognac, I used Kahlua because that's what I had in the house. It was WONDERFUL.... I can't wait to make this again.
    Thank you Pat and Gina..

The brownies were amazing! The whipped cream is heavenly! The only thing I changed was that I chopped up the candy bars so you just got small bites of them in each piece.

Very first thing..... I know it's been mentioned here before, but I feel it bears repeating. The printed recipe here is wrong. Use a TOTAL of three eggs for the cake-like brownie. Couple of other things I discovered. If you purchase the 8-pack of Twix, make sure you get three of them to completely cover the brownies. The 8-pack Twix are "fun size" not the regular size (live and learn. They line up in three rows of eight bars and completely fill the top of the brownies. Because I only had two packages, I took someone else's advice and broke them up. It worked very well. I also used just a little over half of a cup of nuts. It completely covered the first layer of brownie mix and I felt it was enough.

I discovered (a little late in the game that I didn't have the heavy cream for the ganache. So I improvised and used the package of caramel that came with the "turtle" brownie mix that I used. I squeezed it onto the top of the second layer of brownie mix, and then swirled it in. It was the perfect addition to the Twix bars.

Also, whenever I make a "boxed brownie mix," I substitute half the oil with chocolate syrup. It gives the brownies a very decadent, rich flavor.

While I didn't make the recipe exactly as the Neely's, I felt this was a fabulous brownie recipe that can be tweaked any way you prefer. It's a great recipe and I thank the Neely's for showing it to us. Your show rocks!!!

This is a great recipe, the twix are absolutely essential and take the brownie to a whole different level. The chocolate and caramel of the twix melt into the brownie creating a wonderful flavor, and the cookie part stays perfectly in tact and adds a wonderful crunch to the brownie. It's the crunch that makes this a truly amazing dessert. Ok so here are a couple tips I have learned from making this dessert a few times....1. make the ganache first. (finally I've found a ganache recipe! They make a passing reference in the video of letting the ganache sit for an hour, I found that after an hour it was still pretty runny. It should be completely set and creamy, (like a half liquid, half solid chocolate frosting. I tried putting the ganache in the fridge while the brownie was baking and it came out wonderful, perfectly set. 2. I didn't have an 8x8 pan and used a 9x9 instead, if you do this you will need more twix. The first time I made this everyone said it definitely needed more of that twix cookie crunch. 3. The written recipe is somewhat confusing about the eggs, in the video they use 3. DON'T use any more then 3 eggs, it will not turn out right. 4. Line the pan with foil and leave enough foil to hang over the edge of the pan like they do in the video, it saves a lot of time in clean up and makes it so easy to flip the brownie over like they tell you to.
Also, as a side note, you may want to put whatever is left over of the brownie in the fridge. I had mine sitting out for a few days like I do with all brownies but after the third day we all started to have upset stomachs after eating a piece, maybe the cream in the ganache?? Covering it in the fridge definitely wouldn't hurt!! This is one of our favorites!! : Enjoy!!
