    Hello Neely Family & Viewers:
I made this most scrumptious recipe again this year and I doubled the ingredients on purpose..ok!!!!! I have made it our family's official stuffing for Thanksgiving!! It has become a family favorite!! I used low sodium chicken broth & substituted the Italian sweet sausage with Chicken Apple sausage (found near the kielbasa section in most food stores. My family went to town on this one! I try to watch your show whenever time permits since I work full-time! Wishing you all a very Blessed Thanksgiving and a very Merry Christmas! God Bless you & your family always

    Sincerely, Geri

Utilized this stuffing for Thanksgiving 2009 dinner. It was excellent relatively simple to make. I did Tweak the recipe I used dry herbs and I omitted the parsley becuase I just did not want to go back to the store and purchase.I used more broth than the recipe called for other than that Ifollowed the recipe as it was written. My guest loved it . Also I did make my own cornbread. This will be an added item at our holiday gatherings. Thanks Neeley's

Tried this recipe and it turned out flavorful, wonderful, and moist! We did just a few alterations:
-Used 1/2 cup of apple juice instead of 1/4 cup of the bourbon
-Used the 2 eggs + 1 egg white
-Used Turkey breakfast sausage instead of Italian sausage
-Covered it with foil when we baked it
We were afraid that the stuffing would turn out too dry (we usually don't like it cooked outside of the bird because of the dryness, but we were visiting friends who don't stuff the Turkey, but between covering it and the additional egg white and extra apple juice, it was moist and delicious. We also added just a little more thyme and sage since sometimes store bought stuffing can be bland. Perfect!
    Thanks, Neely's!!!

I wanted to try something different for Thanksgiving this year; didn't want to make the same bland ol' cornbread stuffing. So I tried this recipe and I am soooo glad I did, even without the bourbon, it has so much flavor and taste. My family loves it, will use this recipe every Thanksgiving!! Thank you Pat and Gina for sharing one of many of your great dishes.

I did a test run of this recipe last night and followed it to the measurement. It was good, but not great. For the big day, I will use either corn muffins or homemade cornbread, crumbled and toasted. The store bought - I used pepperidge farm cornbread - just didn't taste like cornbread at all. I really don't recommend using it. If you are looking for a shortcut, buy cornbread muffins instead. Also, i wll add a little more broth because it was on the dry side.

Question for those who have tried this. The cornbread stuffing I purchased has a seasoning packet. In your experience should I add this or not.

This is my first comment and I gave 5 starts because I didn't want to mess up the ratings, but I haven't tried yet.

I made a variation of this recipe without the pecans (which I'm going to try. I don't like the regular stuffing. My mom always made cornbread stuffing and this is what I make.

If you don't follow the recipe don't expect the good results. If the recipe says use sausage then use sausage. If you don't eat sausage then use smoked turkey. If you don't eat meat then don't use the recipe or use more herbs.

The recipe mentioned nothing about ham. You alter the recipe then complain because it doesn't taste the same. Hilarious.

you didn't add the spices back into the cornbread dressing that otherwise is provided by the sausage. You should have added some poultry seasoning, garlic, more sage, bell pepper, rosemary, marjoram, and green onions- even some fennel seeds, Ham certainly wouldn't have had these spices and herbs. Cured ham has a hickory flavor and is salty. If using fresh herbs, more is necessary compared to amount of dry herbs used and fresh herbs need to be added near the end of the cooking process. Love the Neely's and their recipes!!! Especially love seeing the love Pat has for Gina-- it's real folks!!
