I Made This Dish For My Family Last Night, And I Was Very Surprised That My Daughters (Who Are 10 & 11 Ate It! My Daughters Are Very Picky Eaters. Both Of Them, Including My Husband And Myself Helped Ourselves To Seconds! My Daughters Asked If They Could Have This Dish For Dinner Again Tonight! I Definately Will Be Adding This Recipe To My Recipe Book. The Only Thing I Did Different Was That I Used Smoked Beef Sausage Instead Of Pork.

I never knew what to do with kielbasa sausage so tried this after seeing the Neely's prepare it. I used converted rice (cause my regular rice always comes out mushy and eliminated the cayenne since we don't care for the heat.
Instead of chopping the vegetables into small pieces, I cut them medium sized. I was hesitant about the parsley (because it has such a strong flavor but it was just fine.
Since I used this as the main dish (served with cabbage, I will cut down on the rice next time so the sausage is more abundant (it's just my husband and me. Delicious! I will definitely make it again.

Made the rice w/water. (Didnt have long grain rice...just used regular old white rice. When done, added the 4 cups of broth, stirred the rice up to get it loose in the broth and then brought to a boil. Reduced to lo heat and covered w/lid and just let it be.

Browned beef smoked sausage (not a big pork fan. Added only onions and garlic, salt and pepper and let that do it's thing for like 5 min. (I omitted the bell pepper and celery cuz I just didn't have any. Scrapped the bottom of the pan to get all those good flavors back up into the meal. Used an italian spice mix of rosemary, thyme, basil, parsley and garlic flakes...oh yaaaa...and just mixed it all in with the sausage. OMG the aroma was kickin'!!! Added the last cup of chicken broth and the 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper...stirred it up real good and you could virtually see the flavor. Just let that simmer for a bit...it actually started to boil so I turned the heat down to med/lo (4 on my stove top dial and just let it simmer for about 5 minutes to get all those spices set in. I threw the rice in and stirred it all up and took it off the heat to an unused burner on the stove...covered it all up and just let it set for about 10 minutes. Did the dishes real quick, put away my spices and what not...and by the time I was done...OMG...had me a sample taste before serving it...and yep yep...its money babyyyY!!!

made DIRTY RICE NEELY STYLE tonight from a recipe I saw on Food Network and YUMMY the spicy level was a bit high but that can be adjusted another time. The over all flavor was FANTASTIC I will make this a regular dish at my house.

I watched this episode and made this "dirty rice Neelys style". Being from New Orleans I know what dirty rice is, but geez folks, get a grip. This is a delicious version; their take on an old favorite. Don't get your panties in a knot because it isn't the tradition recipe. Which, by the way, has a few different versions anyway.

First of all, if sausage should be used then andouille sausage is a better choice. But this is still just a rice and sausage dish, and nowhere near as tasty as true dirty rice. And for those who say 2 parts liquid to one part rice....that's half true.
In a rice cooker, you use one cup of rice and 1 1/2 cups liquid not 2 cups liquid, or else you will end up with rice soup.

I made this receipe two weeks ago and used japaleno pork and beef smoked sausage and it was great. I used minute rice instead of regular rice which mde the rice too soft; next time I will use regular rice; I am the reason I did not rate this excellent. Quick and easy receipe.

I was looking for a way to use smoked sausage I had and not much of any other ingredients on hand for dinner and came across this. The Neelys are a little too chirpy for me but the few shows I've watched, their food looked good so it was worth a try. I did not have celery & cayenne so I drained a can of tomatoes with green chiles and used about 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes. I also cooked my rice in water and not chicken stock but it turned out perfect. My home smells like chiles and I love it. Will definitely make this again for a quick weeknight dinner. It only took me 30 mins to prepare.
